1. Introduction
When D275AX-5 travels uphills or on hard ground forward, the machine may vibrate due to hitting
ground by the shoe grouser of the tracks. This Parts & Service News introduces the improvement proce-
dure to reduce the vibration.
2. List of Parts
1. Details of improvement
The tracks of the crawler tractor make polygonal movement, and the track of the grouser
end comes to the point lower than the ground line at right below the idler. If the machine
travels on flat ground in this condition, the grouser causes a "hitting ground" right below the
idler and makes the machine vibrate.
To prevent this phenomenon, level difference that is "allowance for ground contacts" are
provided between the bottom surfaces of the track roller and the idler, but the proper
allowance varies with traveling ground surface condition and the terrain.
In case of small "allowance for ground contact", "hitting ground under the idler" occurs
easily and becomes remarkable especially at gradient change points when the machine
travels uphills. If the force to cause vibration becomes large, the vibration may continue.

To reduce pushup by the grouser, add a plate to the bogie to increase the clearance right
below the idler sprocket by 25 mm.
2. Modification procedures
2-1. Preparation before modification
(1) For disassembling and assembling the first bogie, refer to the Shop Manual and make
the special tools ready before the modification.
(2) To remove the first bogie, it is necessary to lift the machine until the track roller
completely separates from the track link. So, prepare a jack stand for fixing the
machine and a block for adjusting height.
(3) For setting the jack stand, lift the machine with a blade and ripper, and bring the jack
stand under the equalizer bar and the hull frame. In case of a [machine without
ripper], lift the rear side of the machine with a crane (50 tons approx.) and bring the
jack stand under it.
