TECHNICAL DRAWING

FORM 4

APRIL 2021

Research the following, diagrams must be used in your presentation where applicable.
Assignment should be submitted using Google doc to andre.sewell@moeschools.edu.jm

1. List five (5) personal protective equipment.

(1)GLOVES
(2)HELMET
(3)GLASSES/GOGGLES
(4)SHOES
(5)FACE SHIELD

2. Classify four (4) types of fires and their colour codes

(1)BLACK
(2)BLUE
(3)YELLOW
(4)GREEN
Class A fires – are fires involving organic solids like paper, wood, etc
Class B fires – are fires involving flammable liquids
Class C fires – are fires involving flammable gasses
Class D fires – are fires involving burning metals (eg aluminium swarf)

3. Explain how a fire extinguisher should be used.

Pull: Pull the pin, this will break the tamper seal. Aim: Aim low, pointing the nozzle or hose
at the base of the fire. ... Squeeze: Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent.
Sweep: Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire, the fuel source, until the fire is out.

4. Differentiate among accident, injury and emergency;

accident is an unexpected event with negative consequences occurring without the intention
of the one suffering the consequences while emergency is a situation which poses an
immediate risk and which requires urgent attention and injury is damages to the body

5. Classify six (6) types of lines used in Technical Drawing;

thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, zigzag, diagonal,

6. Prepare labelled diagrams of the following and state their use:

(d) Keyboard-A keyboard is for putting information including letters, words and numbers
into your computer. You press the individual buttons on the keyboard when you type. The
number keys across the top of the keyboard are also found on the right of the keyboard. The
letter keys are in the centre of the keyboard.

7. State the use of the following drawing equipment and instruments

(a) Drawing board-Drawing boards are scaled plastic boards designed specifically for
technical drawing. They are used to draw parallel lines easily and precisely, e.g. for three-
dimensional projections and much more. They feature a mechanical device with rail-mounted
rulers that run horizontally and vertically at an exact 90° angle.
(b) T-square-A T-square is a technical drawing instrument used by draftsmen primarily as
a guide for drawing horizontal lines on a drafting table. It may also guide a set square to draw
vertical or diagonal lines. Its name comes from its resemblance to the letter T.
(c) Compasses-A compass, also known as a pair of compasses, is a technical drawing
instrument that can be used for inscribing circles or arcs. As dividers, they can also be used as
tools to measure distances, in particular on maps. Compasses can be used for mathematics,
drafting, navigation and other purposes.
(d) Set squares-A set square or triangle (American English) is an object used in
engineering and technical drawing, with the aim of providing a straightedge at a right angle
or other particular planar angle to a baseline.
(e) Scale rule-A scale ruler is the three-sided ruler used by architects and readers of
blueprints to convert between scaled drawings and the actual dimensions without having to
resort to any mathematical calculations. An architect uses the scale ruler to convert
dimensions into a smaller drawing of a building plan.
