WHAT I HAVE LEARNED (EVALUATION)

1. The general types of intermolecular forces are Van Der Waals Forces, Ion-Dipole
Interaction, and H-Bonding.
2.
a) Van der Waals forces are interactions between molecules that can be either
repulsive or attractive depending on the distance of the molecules.
(1) Dipole-dipole forces are attractive forces between the positive end of one polar
molecule and the negative end of another polar molecule.
(2) A dipole-induced dipole attraction is a weak attraction that results when a polar
molecule induces a dipole in an atom or in a nonpolar molecule by disturbing the
arrangement of electrons in the nonpolar species.
(3) Dispersion forces are a type of force acting between atoms and molecules that
are normally electrically symmetric; that is, the electrons are symmetrically
distributed with respect to the nucleus.

b) An ion-dipole force is an attractive force that results from the electrostatic attraction
between an ion and a neutral molecule that has a dipole.
c) Interaction involving a hydrogen atom located between a pair of other atoms having
a high affinity for electrons; such a bond is weaker than an ionic bond or covalent
bond but stronger than van der Waals forces
3.
a. London dispersion forces, dipole-dipole
b. London dispersion forces
c. London dispersion forces, dipole-dipole interaction, H-bonding
d. London dispersion forces
e. London dispersion forces
