LEARNING TASK (Intermediate Algebra)

Activity: Performance Task
Topic: Special Products and Factoring
Name:Raven Angeline Mhae O. Narag Date: Week 8
Grade & Section:Grade 8 - St. Therese

Complete the factogon below by providing the correct factors in each rectangle. A sample
factogon was provided as your basis.

Rubrics: 2 points will be given for every correct factor. (20 points)

5x(x+2) 5x(x+4) x+4 x+3

x+2 x-3

x-2 3x+2 2x+5 x-11

Guide Questions:
1. How were you able to get the factors in each rectangle? (2 points)
 However the area of a rectangle is the length times the width so if you can factor x^2 + 18x + 72 into
two factors then one is the length and the other is the width. x^2 + 18 x + 72 = 7. Rewrite this equation
in the form x^2 + ax + b = 0 and again you should be able to factor the left side and hence solve for x.

2. What are the special products/factoring method that you used in completing the
factogon? (3 points)
 Some special factoring formulas include  the difference of two squares, the sum of two cubes, and the
difference of two cubes. If there are three terms or more in the polynomial, students can use strategies
such as finding common factors and factoring by grouping.
