Definition of Globalization

Activity #1 4/8/2021

To assess your understanding of the lesson, please answer the activity below.
Name: Alvarez, John James U. CYS:BSP 2A
Direction: In a short paragraph, answer the following statement.

Part 1: Tell your own globalization experience.

One of my recent globalization experiences are ordering online thru different

online shopping applications like Shopee, Lazada and Shein. My orders were
mostly from China and I think that is a good example of globalization wherein
there is a transfer of goods and essentials from one country to another.
Another globalization experience of mine is that I have a friend from Canada
that I misses so much so I contacted him thru Messenger video call and then
we talked for hours. Despite the distance that me and my friend have, we are
able to communicate thru social media/network. Social media is a great
contribution to globalization , it promotes cultural interaction and various
knowledge and picture exchanges between countries through international
press, TV, new techniques, movies and music.

Part 2: In your own understanding, give three (3) advantages and three
(3) disadvantages of globalization.

ADVANTAGES:

1. Globalization creates jobs - Economic liberalization has facilitated the

relocation of businesses so that they can quickly scale up and build new
employment.
2. Globalization has improved access to technology - Technology has
helped us overcome important challenges in international trade and
globalization such as barriers to trade, lack of a shared legal norm, travel
costs and delays in the exchange of information, transforming the
markets.
3. Globalization promotes peace - The globalization, in particular
economic, social and cultural rights, creates more state capability issues
to comply with human rights obligations. The deeper the economic ties
between nations, the greater the incentive to avoid conflict.

DISADVANTAGES:

1. Globalization fuels inequality - Globalization has been linked to

increased inequality, and disadvantaged people do not often participate in
trade gains. That’s why it makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
2. Globalization leaves us vulnerable to infectious diseases - In a hyper-
connected world, infectious diseases can spread more rapidly, increasing the
likelihood of an international pandemic. As what we are experiencing in
today’s pandemic that we hope will end soon.
3. Globalization destroys the environment - The expansion of globalizing
commerce has led to intensified fishing, forestry degradation and the
spreading to the developing world of contaminating industries.
