for me to be able and information literate individual because 54 hours per week are enough to
developed my mind to engage in rational thinking, that can also help to developed the ability to
discriminate between what does and does not make sense.

What I Can Do

Steps I will take How I will go about the steps

1. Read the article
2. Identify if the source of
article is reliable
3.

Lesson 2

What’s new
1. What are the challenges you’ve face while making this city better?

2. Do you intend to run again as the mayor of this city in the next election?

3. What are your plans to improve this city?

4. How will you solve the shortage of water in this city?

5. What are the top 3 issues or complaints you received this year?

What’s More

1. Information needs: The situation of the parties involved in the video, including the bully, victim, school
administrators, classmates, parents, and first-hand witnesses.

2. First-hand Source of Information, news sites

3. Interview or communicate intent to the parties directly involved, web browsing

4. Do background check of the source of information and check credibility of websites

5. Record the interviews and information collected

6. Narrative report or post it on social media

What I Have Learned

1. It’s plagiarism because you cop and pasted it into one great essay without citing the references. If you’re going
to copy the article online, you should write the owner of the article to avoid plagiarism. Also you can impress your
teacher by doing your assignment by your own. You just need to do your best in doing the activities and maybe
you can ask for help to your friends and family member if you really don’t know your task.

2. I think there is nothing wrong telling the health status of my friend to our teachers because that’s the least I can
do for my friend so our teachers will give her some considerations and extra-activities to passed the school year
but maybe I should ask her parent’s permission first before telling our teachers the real health status of my friend.

3. I know what I did was right. I’m just trying to help my friends by rehabilitating him and cope up with the
problem. Revealing their problems to the neighborhood was not my fault because in the first place, I just wanted
to help. If the problem is not exist, my friend would not try to use a marijuana and scenario like this won’t happen.

What I Can Do
Effects of Media to the Filipino Youth

There were 73.91 million internet users in the Philippines in January 2021. The internet and
social media have been a great improvement in terms of technological advancement, as
communication and information transmission have become much easier for Filipinos,
particularly for the youth. Because of current issues associated with the Filipino youth and their
use of social media, many have questioned its effects, whether it has been positive or negative.

It is undeniable for everyone that life has been easier with faster communication, which is what
social media provides.  Social media can also help you prepare news and trends from around the
world, catch up with what is happening and know what to do. However, if it is misused and
exploited, social media becomes harmful and may have a negative influence. Because of
dependence on social media, students tend to spend more time on social media than learning.
Media contents can spread in a matter of seconds not only across the country but also all over the
world, which is why no matter what the content is, it can definitely influence an individual in a
positive or negative way. Some teenagers have been using social media platform to express
themselves which is not really a bad thing, but they are using it to share their negative sentiments
to the point which it can even be considered as defamation and cyberbullying. There is a fine line
between a constructive criticism and hate, and most Filipinos usually fail to see it. For instance,
the issue with Donnalyn Bartolome who was the one blamed for the death of her grandmother
and people said that she’s rich but can’t help her own relatives. She received numerous hate and
negative feedback from Filipino netizens. Some netizens attacked her which are degrading while
others criticized her actions. Additionally, the youth is often misled by misinformation through
the circulation of "fake news" or "fake stories". One issue was the rumors in Manila that people
are restricted to go outside when they are not vaccinated so people immediately go to the
vaccination sites which caused the influx of people at different vaccination sites. So they had to
cancel the rollout to ensure the safety of everyone

Considering all of the statements, it can be concluded that social media both brought positive
and negative impact to the Filipino youth. But there are more negative effects on youth
especially when the media is abused or not used in a critical way, it influences the end users
negatively. It threatens one's self-concept and identity, relationships, logical understanding and
even intelligence. For that reason, it is important to educate the young on having the essential
skills to effectively engage with social media.
