1. Why is it that in heating a liquid using a test tube, the flame should heat the top of the
liquid and not the bottom?

Heating at bottom can make vapor/gas that can be harmful in our lungs eyes heating test can
make dangerous fumes. The top of the test tube is heated, which allows any gases formed to
escape without forcing liquids on top of the gasues fumes out of the tube

2. In reading a meniscus, why is it that the eye level should be horizontal to the surface of
the liquid, not too high or not too low?

A meniscus is the curved upper surface of a liquid in a tube. When your eye level is
Horizontal to the surface of the liquid it will give a more accurate result

3. Why do we need to follow the proper laboratory techniques when performing an


experiment?

It is very important to follow the proper laboratory techniques when performing an experiment
because proper lab safety prevents cross-contamination. To avoid harm, accidents and mistakes
that can lead failed experiment results.
