Lesson Plan in Science 8

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of the one-way flow of energy
cycling of materials in an ecosystem.
Learning Competency: Explain how materials cycle in an ecosystem (8LT-IVi-23)
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be to:
a. identify the steps involved in water cycle;
b. draw a diagram about water cycle; and,
c. appreciate the importance of water cycle in life.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Water Cycle
Reference: Science 8 Learner’s Module. Campo, Pia C., et al. 2013. Pp. 273-274
Materials: TV, video clip, laptop, marker and cartolina

III. Procedure
A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Motivation
Action song entitled, “The water cycle song.”
4. Setting of Objectives

B. Elicit
Review the students about their previous lesson.
HOTS questions
1. How does organisms help in the cycling of materials?
Answer:
2. Why does materials in the environment need to be recycled?
Answer:

C. Engage
Group the students into two. The teacher will ask the students to participate in a
matching type activity. Students will match the words in column A to its
corresponding pictures in column B.

D. Explore
1. How are you going to describe the activity?
2. Describe the different stages of the water cycle?
3. Is it possible for us to run out of water? Why?
4. How important is water cycle for us? Why?

E. Explain
Play a video about water cycle. (include the link of the video or the URL)

The teacher will discuss the concept after the video is being played.
Following questions will be asked:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

F. Elaborate
Group the students into two. The teacher will ask each group to draw a diagram
about water cycle and describe each step involved. The students will select a
reporter to present their output.

The teacher will use a rubric to assess the presentation of the output.

Direction: Identify the steps involved in water cycle.
1. The process where the water released from clouds in the form of rain, snow or
hail.
2. It occurs when the sun heats up water in rivers or the ocean and turns it into vapor
or steam.
3. It occurs when the water vapor rises in the atmosphere and cools, forming tiny
droplets.
4. This is the process of changing water vapor into gas.
5. This happens when the water that falls from the clouds as rain, snow, hail collects
in the oceans, rivers, lake, streams.
V. Extend
Read your book General Biology, page 275 to 278 and answer the following
questions after your read.
 What is oxygen- carbon cycle?
 Why oxygen-carbon cycle is important?
 Do you think humans and other forms of organism will survive without
oxygen- carbon cycle?
