TITLE: Understanding and Managing Stress during the Covid-19 Pandemic

I. RATIONALE

As cases of COVID-19 surge across the world, several webinars have begun to emerge which
considers the implications of school lockdowns on teaching-learning process, its’ engagement, and
achievement.

While 2020 has seen a dramatic increase in the workload of teachers, many of whom have negotiated
a continuity of learning in adverse circumstances. Thus far as face-to-face teaching and learning ain’t
possible, it is not only the learners who will need help adjusting to ‘the new normal’, more so the
teachers. The very activities of teaching and learning have now become factors of stress: new
evaluation methods and uncertainty, scarce equipment to properly follow education courses, lack of
digital competences, etc. are all new stress-inducing factors.

We must remember that long before COVID-19 disrupted schools, teachers were already at risk of
burnout. Hence, addressing the problem on how teachers have been affected by the pandemic with
respect to their mental health and their relationships in three main fields: work, family, and social
relationships is essential.

In an attempt to combat the stress face by the teachers, EGES coordinates with Women’s Care Center-
Manila and embraces wellbeing initiative to support the faculty.
For teacher wellbeing matters, as teachers who experience amotivation and anxiety are also less
effective in supporting learner’s wellbeing, and learning outcomes.
