Assessment task 5: Evidence of learning

In tasks 5 and 6 you will evaluate the lesson that you taught in the Experience phase and you
will reflect on your developing teaching practice in general. Use this template to help you write
your reflection before getting formative feedback. You can then change your draft based on the
feedback. When you are ready to submit your portfolio, copy the text into the ePortfolio template
provided. You should use continuous prose without subheadings.

1. Explain how you structured the lesson so that it was coherent [refer to your learning
objectives]
My lesson was two periods (80 minutes). I have put one learning objective per period of
teaching. My lesson objectives were ….. When I was making the lesson plan, I was reflecting
on the situation in the class. Every class is different. The class that I taught was notoriously
slow and there were a lot of shy learners. So, I would assign more peer discussion and
puzzle-solving activities in the main lesson to make the class engaging, as it was coherent
with …. . I would list the learning barriers in the topic. The unusual keywords in this chapter
were one of those barriers in the students’ learning process. My lesson structured as
preliminary activity, main activity, and reflection. I planned two or more activities to facilitate
the students to get to the learning objectives.

2. Explain how the teaching methods, learning activities and resources that you used helped
to develop the learners’ learning [give at least one example]

The preliminary activity was reviewing prerequisite knowledge followed by a simple formative
activity. This warmed up the class and created a conducive environment. The two learning
objectives were simplified to hid the difficult keywords. It was planned that one difficult
keyword at a time. This would give them a scaffolding effect on learning. The students
unnoticed, but they knew the direction of where the class was going. I presented some
pictures with provoking questions. This was aimed to make the students to think and provoked
to give feedback. Curiosity was build and a lot of questions appeared in the discussion. The
discussion was leading to a concept which they ought to use certain keywords. These are the
difficult words that I was hiding. They needed to find it and use it in their sentences to explain
the phenomenon. I was looking for some keywords that were related in the syllabus in the
discussion. I gave the examples of how they should do to answer a question in past papers.
was aiming for more peer collaboration and activities in class.

3. Describe how you assessed the students’ learning [refer to examples of assessment for
learning techniques]

The formative assessments were done thrice. The first was during preliminary activity to revise
on the student’s previous knowledge. I presented pictures with questions and randomly asked
the students. The second was during the main activity where students were solving puzzle in
groups. They were presenting their results and I would score them based on presentation. The
other groups would give written feedback to them in turns. I would ask them to reflect on their
results using www/ebi (what when well and even better if)
