a. Use the template in table 7.1 to describe the main assumptions of the organization that you are
analyzing. As mentioned above, your assumptions could include:
• Environmental assumptions- customers, the customer problem, the customer solution required
(products/services), competitors, technology
• Mission assumptions- mission of the business, meaningful results, how the business will make
a difference in the economy and society
• Core competency assumptions- core competencies required to fulfil mission of the business,
areas that the organization must excel at to establish and maintain leadership

b. Use the business model canvas template in figure 7.3 and the practical guidelines above to
describe the current as-is business model of your organization.

c. A more formalized and analytical SWOT variation of the classic SWOT schematic is shown in
tables 7.5 to 7.8. These tables include the rationales for including the various factors and allow
for the prioritization of items. they also highlight the importance of distilling key learnings and
strategic implications from the analysis. Use these tables to conduct a SWOT analysis on the
business you are analyzing, then summarize the conclusions in classic format as in table 7.9.

d. Use the questions above and table 7.10 to construct a list of the most important strategic
issues that need managerial attention.

e. Use your understanding of the assumptions of the business, the interactions between the
elements of your business model, the business’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities
and threats, and the other learnings accumulated throughout this book and describe the
theory of the business you are analyzing by using table 7.11.
