DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM: STAYING WELL IN THE MIDST OF A CRISIS: SIX

DIMENSIONS OF BETTER WELLNESS

We've all felt the devastating effects of the coronavirus disease that gives an impact on
everything, bringing a lot of obstacles as we adjust to our new normal, and the painful aspect is
fighting with ourselves. During this period, our actions are limited, and many of us stay at home
to prevent contracting the virus. However, sitting at home all of the time causes worry and
anxiety. We all know that changing to the new way of life and our surroundings is difficult,
many of us are still adjusting to the new way of life and our environment since not everyone has
the ability and capability to cope.

This webinar educated us, encouraged us, and reminded us that our brains require a healthy or
moderate amount of stress to function correctly. Our mental health is a significant component in
our lives since it affects everything we do. As Ms. Jackie noted, we must learn to pay attention to
function properly, and our brains need a good amount of stress to work correctly. It is healthy in
our brain to keep calm or seek a place where we can focus, reconnect with other people or
friends, and challenge our intellect to learn something. If we are not mentally healthy, we will be
unable to cope with the normal stresses of life and will be unable to work productively; however,
being mentally healthy means not only living for ourselves but also working productively.
Our minds influence our emotions and even our behavior, and if we are experiencing anxiety,
these are the tips that Dr. Lou Mandalupe provides or things that we can do in these trying times.
The first step is to understand ourselves or others, to challenge our self-defeating thoughts, and
to try to focus on positive ideas rather than negative thoughts when things get tough. The second
step is to take care of our well-being by establishing a sleep routine, taking breaks, practicing
mindfulness, rewarding ourselves for accomplishments, minimizing social media distractions
and reaching out, and learning to unplug.

I learned a lot from this webinar, and it is sometimes okay to not be okay because we are not
always in a stage where we are the best version of ourselves. We should always take a break
when we feel something is off or if we can't feel our self anymore. We should also remember not
to put ourselves in a situation from which we cannot get out; instead, we should just go through
it and remind ourselves that we are much stronger than our problem.
