GENERAL LESSON Students will be able to solve word problems using place value in

LANGUAGE Students will be able to identify the keywords they need to understand
OBJECTIVE(S) the place value in an addition and subtraction word problems.
COMMUNICATION Students will be able to read aloud whole numbers up to million,
OBJECTIVE(S) identifying the place in such amounts and the values of the digits in
those places. Moreover, they will explain how to resolve a word
problem using keywords.

PROCEDURE TIME
 Review some keywords they can use in math.
 Students will select some color papers. After that, they’ll

 These papers have a number (divided by ones, tens, minutes

 With this activity, they will associate a color with the
number in its place value.

 Explain what place of value is and how they can use it in


numbers up to millions.
 Show a picture with the colors chosen to represent place
STUDY value. This activity is done to help students to remember the 10
association between colors with place value. minutes
 Project a box without colors. Students have to take some
color papers and organize them according to the place value
written.
 Students are going to divide into groups of two. For this
activity, we need to use the following materials.
1. Poker tokens (using colors using on last activities)
2. Headbands
 One student is going to wear the headband with a number
ACTIVATE that they can't see (to guess the number), the other student 15
will see the number of his/her friend’s head. After that, minutes
he/she has to represent the number placing the poker tokens
on the floor. When the student understands the number
(according to the color of the tokens), he/she should write it
on the board.
 Finally, students will resolve two addition and subtraction
word problems using the keywords given and color papers
for representing place value.

HOMEWORK –  Finish the word problems we worked in class, using the same method.
