FIELD ATTACHMENT (FA) GUIDE

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME

The general objective of this programme is to impact knowledge and skills to student on implementation
monitoring and evaluation of development activities particularly at lower levels. Specifically the holder of
Certificate in Community Development has the following capabilities: - (i) assist rural communities in
developing viable economic plans through participatory development planning methodology (O & OD),
(ii) assist people at grass root level in identifying development opportunities and obstacles and come up
with interventions (iii) Assist rural communities in implementation, monitoring and evaluation of
development projects.

INTRODUCTION TO FIELD ATTACHMENT

The field attachment for CCD is meant to ensure that students have an opportunity to relate what they
learnt in class and what exists in the real situation as well as interact with planners and decision makers.
The students will go for their field attachment just after the end of the second semester of the academic
year for 4 weeks under the supervision of the respective academic staff/supervisor.

OBJECTIVE OF THE FIELD ATTACHMENT

The objective of carrying out field attachment is to impact students with skills and knowledge on the
practical process of by linking knowledge they get in class to action or theory to practice so that one
participates the activities and process involved in community development.

ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED DURING FIELD ATTACHMENT

Make sure that he/she uses knowledge and skills at different levels of development process.

Students are proposed to use skills and knowledge when carrying different activities related to the field
specialization.

Students to link theories and concepts learnt in class sessions with their real practical application.

Students must ensure the following before departing for their FA stations-:

 Possession of all required forms to be field during the FA issued by the institute

 Possession of all required guidelines for completing the FA

 Possession of an introduction letter from the Institute

On arrival at the FA station, student shall fill in an arrival notification form prepared and issued to each
student by DIDES (See Appendix 1) and there after they should be sent to course coordinator.

The student should submit an assessment form; fully field in by the field supervisor together with the FA
report to the course coordinator.

Each student shall be required to attain good scores in FA as it will be added to scores acquired from
general paper and special paper.

A student who does not go to his/her respective place allocated to him/her with no apparent reasons shall
be considered as not having gone for FA and hence necessary measures shall be taken against such a
student.

A student shall hand in his /him FA report for assessment within the first week from date of return from
the field.

FIELD ATTACHMENT ASSIGNMENTS

All CCD students are supposed to undertake a field attachment in a village/ street of their choice. While
undertaking FA, students are expected to:

i. Learning process involved in preparing actual village/street development plans. Important issues
include:

 The way problems are identified

 The way priorities are set

 The way monitoring is done

 The way they report

ii. Learn financial accountability and transparency in due course of implementation of development
plans.

 Orientation on last year’s development financial budget

 Realization of identified activities/projects’ for preparation of village development budget

 The method used in provision of information involved in collecting data to facilitate the village
development plan

iii. Learn about the application of methods involved in collecting data to facilitate the n preparation
village development plan.

iv. Prepare field attachment report.

GUIDELINE FOR WRITING FA REPORT

On return from the field each student shall be required to write a on what he/she have learnt from the
field. The fully typed report should be submitted to the course coordinator after one week.

Cover page should bear-:

 The name of the institute e.g. Dodoma Institute of Development and Entrepreneurship Studies

Reports to be submitted by all students shall consist of tree parts; an Introductory part, presentation of
experience from the field and conclusion and recommendations as outlined below:-

Background information should include; Establishment of village/street /ward/organization. Also the

student need to tell in a nutshell how and why she/he has conducted the field attachment, where the field

was conducted, in which village/street /ward/organization and what the reader should expect to see in the

report.

 The student has to explain in brief an overview of the activities that he/she got engaged by

referring to the work schedule or log book that will be attached as an appendix. (Not less than 4

pages)

In this subsection the student has to identify the achievement obtained by him/her during the field

attachment (2 pages).

In this subsection the student has to identify practical problems faced by the village/street. He/she need to

explain why, how and to what extent the pointed out problems have attempted to affect the public (2

pages).

CHAPTER FOUR

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

3.1 Conclusion

The student has to give summary of the major findings he/she has observed and interpreted to draw valid

conclusions.

3.2 Recommendations

Based on drawing conclusion, the student has to advise workable solutions for the improvement of the

village/street performance. It is in this part the student is expected to show the ability to apply skills in

solving the problems.

This will include a list of the consulted materials that the student visited when writing the report like

books, pamphlets, journals, websites etc.
