PURPOSE
- Coordinates all activitas of the body.
- Enables the the body to respond and adapt to changes both inside and out.
The central nervous system
- The brain
- The soinal cord
Terbagi menadi beberapa bagian:
1. Cerebrum
2. Cerebellum
3. Diencephalon
4. Midbrain
5. Pons
6. Medulla oblongata

Cerebrum
Four lobes:
1. Frontal
2. Pariental
3. Temporal
4. Occipital

Frontal lobe
- Reasoning and thought
Parietal lobe
- Integrates sensory information
Temporal lobe
- Processes auditory information from the ears
Occipital lobe
- Processing visual information from the eyes
Cerebellum
- Muscle coordination
- Balance
- Posture
- Muscle tone
Diencephalon
- thalamus
the thalamus directs sensory impulses to the cerebrum
- hypothalamus
controls and regulates temperature, appetite,water balance, sleep,and blood vessel
constriction and dilation
hypothalamus: anger, fear, pleasure, pain,affection
Midbrain
- located below cerebrum
- responsible for eye and auditory reflexes

- located below midbrain (in brainstem)
- responsible for certain reflex actions
medulla oblongata
- located at the bottom of the brainstem
- connets to the spinal cord
medulla oblongata regulates
- heart and blood vessel function
- digestion
- respiration
- swallowing
- coughing
- sneezing
- blood pressure

it is also known as “ the center for respiration”.

The spinal cord
The spinal cord is the link between the brain and the nerves in the rest of the body.
4 region
- cervical
- thoracic
- lumbar
- spinal nerves
afferent: carries information from the body to the brain
efferent : carries information from the brain to the body

The peripheral nervous system

1. somatic
2. autonomic
The somatic nervous system is responsible for carrying motor and sensory information.
It is made up of nerves that connect to skin, sensory organs, and skeletal muscles.
The somatic system is responsible for nearly all voluntary muscle movements.
Processes sensory information from external stimuli.( hearing,touch,and sight.)

The afferent neurons take information from the nerves to the central nervous system.
The efferent neurons take information from the central nervous system to the muscle fibers
throughout the body.

The sympathetic nervous system

“ fight or flight”
Revs up the body to either defend yourself or escape the threat.

The parasympathetic nervous system

Brings all systems of the body back to normal.
