Lesson Plan in Science 10

Quarter 3
A. Learning Competency
Explain the role of hormones in the male and female reproductive system.
SIOLT-III-34
Objective(s):
At the end of the lesson student shall be able to:
1. Compare and contrast the parts of a male and female reproductive
system and its function.
2. Determine the role the role of hormones in male and female
reproductive systems; and
3. Recognize the importance of hormones in the male and female
reproductive system.

CSE Integration

Describe the sexual and reproductive capacity of men and women

over the life cycle. K1A1

B. Content/Topic: Role of Hormones in the Male and Female Reproductive System

C. Learning Resources:
 CSE Curriculum Guide
 Grade 10 CSE Reader
 Weekly Learning Activity Sheets (Science 10 Quarter 3 Week 1)

D. Procedures:
A. Motivation
Task 1: Relate yourself!
1. Student will study the picture below.
2. Let the learners answer the questions below the pictures.
Questions:
1. What did you observe in the pictures?
2. Do you have the same experiences in the pictures shown? Was it
pleasant or unpleasant? Why?
3. What do you think are causes of these changes in our body?

B. Activity
Task 2: Fill in the blanks!
Directions:
3. Student will match the different hormones in column A with their
functions in column B.
Column A Column B
______1. Progesterone a. stimulates spermatogenesis
______2. Estrogen b. inhibits growth of facial hair
______3. Testosterone c. stimulates secretion of FSH and LH
______4. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone d. inhibits uterine contractions
______5. Follicle- stimulating hormone e. stimulates ovulation and the
formation and maintenance of
the corpus luteum
f. stimulates the development of
follicle cells
Task 3: FILL IN THE BLANKS!
Directions:
1. Complete the passage by filling up the correct term/s in its
respective blank space.
2. This is a Cloze test which means that there is no other answer
aside from the term/s taken from the box below.
3. Term/s can be used more than once if needed.
ROLE OF HORMONES IN REPRODUCTION

___________a responsible for driving sexual maturity ___________. The main reproductive
hormones are __________and _____________________is responsible for the eggs to mature in the
ovaries once a girl hits puberty. These mature eggs are then released at regular intervals during the
______________while ______________stimulates_______________ production in males.

For both male and female reproductive system, it is the __________________that

monitors and causes the release of hormones from the _____________. During childbirth, the level of
_____________will rise at the onset of labor that will cause regular contractions of the womb and
abdominal muscles. After the baby was born, _________________ and ____________________ are
needed to produce milk during breastfeeding. ________________occur when abnormal levels of
estrogen and _________________ develop that can cause ____________________and other health
issues.

Terms/s to be used:

Menstrual cycle hypothalamus

Prolactin testosterone
Infertility sex hormones
Estrogen androgen sex hormones
Pituitary gland oxytocin
Puberty reproductive hormone disorder
Sperm

C. Analysis

Follow up Questions:
1. How important sex hormones in developing one’s body?
2. What are the significant roles of hormones in the reproduction.

Teacher will Emphasize through a discussion the sexual and reproductive capacity of
men and women:

A characteristic feature of reproductive capacity in women is its cyclical

nature, a feature that is strikingly reflected by the growth and
development of oocytes and follicles within the ovaries .
The process begins at puberty with the first cycle and ends at the
menopause with the permanent cessation of menses.
Just as women gradually lose reproductive capacity, men experience
a climacteric of sorts in which there is a reduction in the number of viable sperm
they produce due to degenerative changes in the seminiferous tubules of
the testes (Harman, 1978). With increasing age, men may experience changes in
the prostate gland that lead to a reduction of the volume and pressure of semen
expelled during ejaculation. Age-related changes also include overgrowth or
hypertrophy of the glandular and connective tissue in the parts of the prostate
that surround the prostatic urethra.
During sexual intercourse sperm are transferred from the penis of the male
into the vagina of the female. They then swim through the uterus to the oviduct
and can fertilize an egg cell if one is present.
D. Abstraction
Before hormones are introduced in the male and female reproductive
system, coordination of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and the reproductive organ
happen which are summarized below:

a. Hypothalamus monitors and causes the release of hormones from the pituitary
gland.
b. Gonadotrophin- releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus enables
follicle-stimulating (FSH) AND Luteinizing hormone (LH)
In the anterior pituitary gland to be secreted in the bloodstream and into the
reproductive organ.
c. FSH and LH are produced in both sexes and play important roles in controlling
reproduction.

The Female Sex Hormones and their Functions

E. Application
Task 4: Analyzing the importance of healthy lifestyle in maintaining
normal hormone production.
4. Each student will write 5 sentence answer analyzing the importance of
healthy lifestyle in maintaining normal hormone production in the
male and female reproductive systems.
5. Students will be guided by the rubric below in writing the essay.

Rubrics:

V. REFLECTION

release of hormones.
