number
b.2. Lesson
As the Teacher discusses the principles of image manipulation and design, the
teacher will use Adobe Photoshop application throughout the discussion for the
visual.
The teacher will ask first the following questions before giving the definition:
What is a design?
- an outline, sketch, or plan, as of the form and structure of a work of art, an
edifice, or a machine to be executed or constructed.
What is Image manipulation?
- Involves the transformation or alteration of a photograph using various
methods and techniques to achieve desired results.
After the introduction of the definition of image manipulation and design, the
teacher will then discuss the principle of design.
Principles of Design
1. Balance – Is an equal distribution of the graphics’ visual weight which is
determined by its size, darkness, or lightness, and thickness of lines.
2. Shape – It refers to a two-dimensional element with an area on a plane. It
has length and width and can be geometric or organic in form.
3. Form – Is a three-dimensional element with volume in space. It has length,
width, and depth, and all forms have shape.
4. Color – Visible Spectrum of radiation reflected from an object. Also, it
refers to specific hues used in design.
5. Size – Refers to the relationship of the area occupied by one shape to that
of another.
6. Space – The distance or area around or between the elements in a design.
7. Texture – Refers to the surface quality of a shape or how it feels to appear:
rough, smooth, soft, hard, or glossy.
8. Value – Refers to the distance between light and darkness of a color, it is
also referred to as tone.
Image Manipulation Principles
1. Cropping - Cutting the parts away to remove distracting or irrelevant
images.
2. Color Balance - The ambiance and the tone of light of the picture (ex.
Warm or cool light)
3. Brightness- This control uniformly changes all the colors, from extremely
light (white) to extremely dark (black). You can use it to make the overall
picture lighter or darker, not to brighten or darken selective areas.
4. Contrast - it is a key element to convey certain moods through your
images.
- High contrast photos pop out, show textures in the subject and give a
feeling of edginess, high energy and strength. High contrast is used a lot in
street photography and nature photography. Low contrast images tend to
have a dreamy feeling.
5. Compression and Resizing - The higher the quality and the larger the photo
is, the bigger the file size of the picture is.
6. Filters - Making the image look sketched, grainy, classic black and white or
even let it have neon colors. This gives your image a twist from its original
look.
7. Cloning - Copying or duplicating a part of an image.
8. Changing the Background - Adding background to make your image stand
out
9. Saturation - refers to the intensity of a color. The higher the saturation of a
color, the more vivid it is. The lower the saturation of a color, the closer it is
to gray.
The teacher will then give a short discussion on why the principles of
design and image manipulation are important.
● Classic and digital designers alike harness the principles of design to
shape their work, building on top of the elements of design to give
cohesion to their pieces. When used successfully, these principles have the
ability to transform designs, both aesthetically and in terms of
performance.
● Classical and digital alike use the Principle of Image manipulation to
create beautiful images, and enhance the look of your photos.
C. Application
Using their phones and the installed Adobe Lightroom app that you told
them to bring last meeting, the teacher will give the instruction to their
activity.
D. Generalization
a. The teacher will ask if the students have understood the lesson well and if
there are any clarifications or questions from the students.
b. The teacher will ask a student to enumerate the principles of image
manipulation.
c. The teacher will ask a student to enumerate the principles of design.
E. Evaluation
ESSAY:
Why is it important for classical and digital designers to learn the Principles of
Design and Principles of Image Manipulation?
F. Assignment
