B. Evaluate the following functions

1. 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 4 at:
a. 𝑓(2)
𝑓(2) = (2) 2 + 3(2) − 4
𝑓(2) = 4 + 6 − 4
𝑓(2) = 6
b. 𝑥 = 𝑎 + 1
𝑓(𝑎 + 1) = (𝑎 + 1) 2 + 3(𝑎 + 1) − 4
𝑓(𝑎 + 1) = (𝑎 2 + 2𝑎 + 1) + (3𝑎 + 3) − 4

D. Suppose 𝑓 (𝑥) = 𝑥 3 − 27, 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑥 + 3, and ℎ (𝑥) = 4𝑥, evaluate:

1. (𝑓 ∙ 𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) ∙ 𝑔(𝑥)
= (𝑥 3 − 27)(𝑥 + 3)
= 𝑥 4 − 27𝑥 + 3𝑥 3 − 81
= 𝑥 4 + 3𝑥 3 − 27𝑥 − 81
2. (𝑔 − ℎ)(𝑥) = 𝑔(𝑥) − ℎ(𝑥)
= (𝑥 + 3) − 4𝑥
= −3𝑥 + 3
3. (𝑔 𝜊 ℎ)(𝑥) = (𝑔(ℎ(𝑥))
= (4𝑥) + 3
= 4𝑥 + 3
4. (ℎ 𝜊 𝑓)(𝑥) = (ℎ (𝑓(𝑥))
= 4(𝑥 3 − 27)
= 4𝑥 3 − 108
