The Slide discusses about travel and tourism industry. The travel and tourism industry is divided into
two parts:

• Travel is involves businesses that physically move people from one place to another.
The purpose of travel is connected with building social relationships, opportunities to learn
and grow, and commitment. It gives us the chance to be truly engaged in an activity, to
develop new skills and to discover new cultures. It brings us closer to ourselves and others.
Traveling is one of the best ways to learn more about yourself
• Tourism is involves businesses that organize and promote travel and vacations. In its broadest
sense, the tourism industry is the total of all businesses that directly provide goods or services
to facilitate business, pleasure and leisure activities away from the home environment.

The Travel businesses include:

• Airlines a company that owns and operates many airplanes which are used for carrying
passengers and goods to different places. The airline industry encompasses a wide range of
businesses, called airlines, which offer air transport services for paying customers or business
partners. These air transport services are provided for both human travelers and cargo, and are
most commonly offered via jets, although some airlines also use helicopters.
• Car rentals: automobiles that rented for short periods of time, generally ranging from a few
hours to a few weeks. A car rental, hire car or car hire agency is a company that rents
automobiles for short periods of time for a fee. It is often organized with numerous local
branches, and primarily located near airports or busy city areas and often complemented by a
website allowing online reservations
• Cruise lines: The cruise industry refers to all businesses that are involved with facilitating
pleasure voyages via the use of cruise ships. This would include cruise operators and cruise
lines, as well as businesses that are involved with the manufacture of cruise ships. In addition,
it includes certain entertainment companies specializing in cruise entertainment. Cruise
line’ is the name given to a company that operates cruise ships and sells cruises to paying
customers. Within the price of a cruise, customers can typically expect a cabin on the cruise
ship, some form of entertainment, access to food (sometimes on an all inclusive basis) and for
the ship to travel on a set route.
• Taxi and ferry services:
Taxi - a car that carries passengers to a place for an amount of money that is based on the
distance traveled. In the bigger cities of Indonesia taxi services are an essential part of the
transportation system and an effective solution to travel in and around the city. With
Indonesia's public transportation mostly underdeveloped and Indonesia's taxi tariffs among
the lowest worldwide, the rapidly expanding urban middle class increasingly prefers to use
taxi services instead of other transportation services. This has resulted in rising demand for
taxi services and a shortage of (reliable) taxi drivers. Furthermore, the arrival of mobile
applications offers new opportunities as well as threats for existing taxi companies.
A ferry is a vessel used to transport passengers and/or vehicles across a body of water on a
regular, frequent basis. Ferries can range from small boats carrying passengers across a
harbor, lake or river, to large sea-going ships carrying passengers, cars, trucks and other
heavy cargo across longer distances where overnight sleeping accommodations are required.
• Train and bus services:
Train a connected line of railroad cars with or without a locomotive.
Bus a large motor vehicle carrying passengers by road, especially one serving the public on a
fixed route and for a fare.

In slide 4 discuss about Tourism businesses. Tourism businesses are distributed across five main
industry groups: food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, transportation,
accommodation and travel services.

promoting communities and facilities to businesses and leisure travelers through a range of

maps; and organizing group tours of local historical, recreational, and cultural attractions
• A cruise line is a company that operates cruise ships that operate on ocean or rivers and which
markets cruises to the public. Cruise lines are distinct from passenger lines which are
primarily concerned with transportation of passengers
