Prelim Project ELS 138

Interviewer: Blezel Mae P. Alzaga

Interviewee: Pamela P. Bagaporo

For the completion of my prelim project in this subject, I interviewed Ms.

Pamela P. Bagaporo, a former elementary teacher and now, a Senior high School

Teacher 1 at Eduardo V. Agomaa National High School in Duang Niog, Libmanan,

Camarines Sur. I know she was suited to be interviewed in regards to the subject

matter of this project because being a teacher, it is a default to know and do a lot of

technical papers or reports. Thus, I can receive significant answers to her about her

strengths and weaknesses when it comes to technical writing.

Considering our situation amidst the pandemic, our interview session took

place online. Through messenger, I sent her the permission letter to ask her to be

my respondent and the interview question which consists six items. She willingly

agreed and participated to my invitation. As expected, she stated that she has

experienced writing technical papers such as lesson plans, research papers, and

formal letters.

She stated that what troubles her in writing technical paper is carefully

choosing appropriate words to be use. It is crucial to only use simple and direct to

the point words so that the recipient can fully understand the message being

conveyed. Additionally, she said that technical paper has a lot to consider especially

on its structures and formats. “My weakness is that sometimes I forgot some formal

style appropriate in writing technical paper” said by Ms. Pamela. “Dagdag ko pa,

minsan nalilimit yung words na gusto mong isulat. Hindi ka makakapag express ng

emotions since it needs to be objective.” I understand her point; technical writing is

basically composing a message from a particular standpoint and it must devoid

emotions. But it will be troublesome for the people who are subjective which at

times, manifest biases.

On the other hand, despite of troubles she encountered, she also had

mentioned advantages of a technical writing. According to her, Technical writing is

essential when you want to simplify a complex idea that you wanted to deliver. She

exampled when writing a lesson plan. She did not elaborate it but in my own

knowledge, complex ideas are always present in every topic or lessons to be

delivered in class but through technical writing, it can be simplified in a format of a

lesson plan so that the teacher could not lose track on the flow of teaching and the

student can easily understand the ideas, theories and topics as well. “My strength in

when it comes to technical writing is my skills in doing a research. I know what

appropriate words to use and those should not.” Said by Ms. Pamela. Additionally,

she shared that the last time she wrote a technical paper is way before pandemic

because the lesson plans are already made and handed to them. She also not doing

any research for quite some time. She considered the E-mail sent by her to their

principal as one of technical writing she did.

Upon finishing the interview, what I have learned is that, even a professional

can still be troubled and face weaknesses in writing a technical paper. But throughout

the process, you could also gain knowledge and improve your skills over time.

Technical writing has its different purposes that is relevant to communication so that

misunderstanding and complex messages will be avoided. Hence, Technical writing is

worth to be studied so that we can become an effective communicator in our own

chosen profession in the future.

Here are some photos of Ms. Pamela P. Bagaporo which she had sent me when I

asked for some photos I could attach to my interview report.
