1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 SCOPE
The field of application of this document is the C301: Shah – Habshan – Ruwais Railway Project.
All personnel involved in maintenance and/or installation of the IXL subsystem must be trained.
To be able to understand the alarms and logs it is necessary to gain deeper knowledge of the system and it is
recommended to study the system functional specification
1.2 PURPOSE
This document describes the user interface the D&M Desk part of IXL subsystem. The purpose of this document
is to list and detail all the functions that the D&M desk shall implement to satisfy C301 Shah-Habshan-Ruwais
contractual requirements.

2. SYSTEM INTRODUCTION
The D&M IXL HMI allows alarm management of IXL sub-system and allows to send maintenance commands to
the IXL as defined in [FRS_IXL].
Figure 2-1
In C301: Shah – Habshan – Ruwais Railway Project there are two D&M HMI, one for each IXL.
The D&M IXL HMI has a Windows-like look & feel and is fully operational with standard keyboard and mouse
The D&M IXL HMI shows in graphical format all information gathered from the field as received by IXL in an area
called (Display station)
All monitored Sites and Plants can be accessed through the viewing of multiple graphics pages called ‘mimics’.
(The term ‘mimic’ indicates a screen layout which is a set of graphic symbols used to represent and describe
equipment and device status)
Typically a mimic is composed of:
1. animated or static symbols, representing the plant’s equipment (e.g. Track Sections, Points, Marker
Boards) or interactive graphic objects (e.g. button);
2. animated or static text.
Every change of the field status or every new alarm raised is promptly notified to the operators by means of the
available views and pages of the system.

• selection of elements and functions is done by mouse click with the left mouse button
• selection of a function menu depending on the context is done by mouse click on the requested element
with the right mouse button.
For system maintenance the application programs here below are required and described in the following:
• Maintenance Commands
• Logging application
• Alarm list
The alarm list and the Maintenance commands application are started when launching the main application “ART
Workstation Monitor”.
The logging application can be started and closed by the operator at any time.

The system tree permits to restrict the number of visualized messages in the alarm list to those of single
subsystems.
The selection of the system to be visualized is achieved by left click on the requested element in the system tree.
It is possible to restrict the filtering furthermore by selecting a sub-layer. The filter function is disabled when

8. TAN (AREA 5)
The Tan is a virtual keyboard that comes into action whenever the operator must send a command to the IXL.
The operator, check on the safe echo, represented on Signaling Detail screen, the commands that should be sent
to IXL.
If the command is correct, the maintainer must insert in the TAN the correct code, provided by TMR, to complete
the procedure of command to IXL
The TAN interface is composed of two elements:
1. TAN display;
2. TAN keypad.

4. The maintainer checks the command in the echo and types the code through the keypad;
5. The Safety nucleus compares the TAN code coming from the maintainer and the TAN code generated in
step 2. If the comparison is successful the safety nucleus executes the command.
The maintainer need to input, within a specified timer, represented by the shortening of the blue vertical bar, the
numeric sequence using the mouse and the numeric pad that will be shown on screen in his area. The
sequences will be compared and if they match the command is accepted, otherwise refused. The TAN procedure
guarantees the command is not accidentally generated.
If the “TAN code” is not typed within the specified timer, the command aborts. Then, the command shall be
inserted again by the maintainer and follows successfully all the step foreseen by the TAN procedure in order to
be effective.
If the “TAN code” typed by RBC operator is wrong and the specified timer has not expired yet, the correct code
displayed in the TAN display becomes "violet-background" and maintainer is allowed to type the code again until
the timer expires.
The dialogue window, in order to make up the TAN code, is made of 5 elements:
1. Numeric keypad used by maintainer in order to insert the transaction number
2. A window showing the transaction number inserted by maintainer (Eco code area)
