ACTIVITY 2
(A) The picture is of a volcanic eruption.
The smoke is gushing out from the crater.
Lava is flowing down the volcano.
(B) The material being extruded by mount Mayon called Lava. Lava typically comes
from the mantle, the earth’s middle layer, between the crust and the core.
Earth's mantle contains magma. This magma is pushed upwards onto the
earth's crust during volcanic eruptions. When magma flows on the surface of
the earth, it is called lava.
WHAT IS IT
Guide Questions:
1. Oxygen is the most abundant element in magma as it makes up to 46.6% of it.
2. Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium and other elements are the lowest amount in
the magma.
3. The top two compositions of magma are oxygen and silicon. Oxygen comprises a
little less than half the total, followed by silicon at just over one-quarter.

ACTIVITY 4
1. No. There is no partial melting because there should be a decrease of pressure
in the asthenosphere.
2. No. There is no partial melting because too much water will decrease the
melting of the rocks.
3. Yes. There is partial melting because heat is transferred from the molten rocks
to the Earth’s cold crust.

ACTIVITY 5
1. magma, semi-liquid
2. igneous rocks
3. magma chamber, lava, volcano
4. magmatism
5. silicon, oxygen
6. partial melting
7. an increase in temperature, decrease of pressure, volatiles
8. heat transfer, convergent boundaries
9. decompression melting, mid-ocean ridge
10.flux melting, subduction zone

ACTIVITY 6
A.
 The ice cream is melting due to sunlight.
 This is related to heat transfer.
B.
 Compressing clothes in the luggage.
 This is related to the decompression melting.
C.
 Melting of different materials.
 This is the same as the minerals in the rocks melt to form magma.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
The message of the poem shows the similarities of people or humans to a magma. Just
reading the poem, it simply says about the magma just being deep down in the middle
part of the earth which is the mantle. Then magma rises up until it flows down the
volcano, flowing of red tears which just meant to be lava. But understanding it deeper,
it explains a person who keep on hiding to the point that it hurts him/herself. A
person staying in one corner or in one room, not trying to open up, and ends up
hating his/herself for being a coward. So, the message here is, sometimes the problem
why we can’t do something to reach our goal is our self. Why not just set ourself free
from burdens, problems, imperfections, fear that keep us down and in pain. The poem
is encouraging us to show our true self and try to stand up and reach something or
just let ourselves shine.
