Set Symbols
We may use Cookies OK
A set is a collection of things, usually numbers. We can list each element (or
"member") of a set inside curly brackets like this:
{ 3, 6, 91, ... }
element element
element three dots means
goes on forever (infinite)
("element" or "member" mean the same thing)
A⊂B {3, 5} ⊂ D
but B has more elements.
A⊃B Proper Superset: A has B's elements and more {1, 2, 3, 4} ⊃ {1, 2, 3}
Dc = {1, 2, 6, 7}

P(A) Power Set: all subsets of A P({1, 2}) = { {}, {1}, {2}, {1, 2} }
A=B Equality: both sets have the same members {3, 4, 5} = {5, 3, 4}
Cartesian Product
{1, 2} × {3, 4}
A×B
(set of ordered pairs from A and B) = {(1, 3), (1, 4), (2, 3), (2, 4)}
