5.2 REQUISITE BEFORE REQUESTING YOUR PERSONALIZE BIKE CREATION

When shopping for a new or used bike, the following suggestions may help you narrow

down your options and locate the right bike for you. These suggestions are not intended

to be exhaustive in terms of the topics they cover, but rather to serve as a solid starting

point for determining what would work best for you.

5.2.1 each body is different, and bikes come in many sizes. Finding the one that fits you

is important not only for reasons of comfort, but also safety. The first thing I check when

looking at a bike is the “stand over height” or height of the top tube in relationship to the

ground. Stand over height is important because A) proper clearance while standing over

the top tube ensures safer riding – in the event you slide forward off your saddle you will

land with your feet planted on the ground, and not hit yourself on the bike! And B) if the

bike frame is the right size for you, it will make riding more comfortable and efficient. On

bikes made for road, cyclocross, or track, you want a minimum of 1-1/2” clearance

between your body and top tube. On mountain bikes, cruisers and hybrids, you typically

want 2” or more.

Another factor to consider regarding fit is the “cockpit length” – essentially the distance

between your saddle and handlebars. If the bike is too big, you will likely feel like you

are stretched out, riding in an almost “superhero” flying position. If the bike is too small,

you may feel like you’re cramped up, as if you’re riding in a clown car. Cockpit length

can be adjusted slightly to accommodate a relatively longer or shorter torso, but not by

much.

One way to adjust the reach is to get a slightly shorter or longer stem, however, this will

affect the feel of the steering. Depending on the bike, swapping out a stem can be

easier or more difficult, but finding what works best for you may be worth the trouble.
The frame can be thought of as the “bones” of the bike, around which components and

accessories are attached to and can be replaced, upgraded, etc. to your liking. Again,

getting the right frame to fit your body is the key.

5.2.2Uses(s)- When looking for a new or used bicycle, it's also crucial to consider what

you'll use it for. Is it going to be largely utilized for commuting around town? Do you

want anything ideal for long-distance touring? Perhaps you're looking for a bike to ride

on a pump track. Knowing what type of riding you want to perform on your bike can help

you limit down your options. Most motorcycles, with a few exceptions, are ultimately

what you make of them. Older (non-suspension) mountain bikes, for example, may

frequently make terrific, durable commuters for getting around town by simply replacing

out knobby trail type tires for something more suitable for the road (check out our

favorite commuter-appropriate tires, "Schwalbe Marathons" – $44 ea.)

5.2.3 Accessory Compatibility- When shopping for a bicycle, having an eye for detail is

essential. Spotting mounting locations for items like racks, fenders, and, of course,

water bottle cages is a smart use of that talent. Also, being able to identify frame

elements that may be beneficial to, or restricting, the choices you make later on to tailor

your bike to your needs. Consider the space between the tires and the frame or fork, for

example, in addition to mounting points for fender stays. Is there enough room for a

standard fender? If the answer is negative, that doesn't imply the bike can't have

fenders; rather, a specific low-profile fender (such as the "Road Racer MK2" – $60/pair)

or a standard fender may need to be designed to fit under the brake bridge. There are

several possibilities of compatibility, so bear in mind the extras you want to use if the
bike does not already come with them, and think how they may be installed on the

bike(s) you're considering.

5.2.4 Aesthetics- Once you've narrowed down your options, it's critical to choose a bike

that appeals to you. Perhaps you like an early 1990s mountain bike with a brilliant, neon

yellow paint job, or perhaps you prefer something a bit more subtle. In any case, make

the appropriate decision so that you may be pleased to be seen riding it.

5.2.5 Maintenance- Some people have difficulty detecting wear and tear on a used bike.

Chain stretch, or drivetrain wear in general, can be difficult to detect by eye and may

necessitate the use of specialized instruments.

We provide free repair estimates at the Community Cycling Center. We perform a

thorough evaluation to evaluate any problems that your new bike may be experiencing,

and we can work with you to prioritize repairs that need to be done right away or

10 Critical operation management decision of Giant Bicycle Giant Manufacturing

Co. Ltd.

1. Product and Design Services

A. Research
Teamwork Solutions Group, LLC emphasizes that the revenue generated by products

and services fuels your business. Product design is the process of transforming ideas

into actual and practical items by combining manufacturing capabilities with product and

business expertise. The coordination and combination of people, communication, and

material components to create quality service is referred to as service design. On the

other hand, Shivayogi a UI/UX Practice Head at Royal Cyber define Product design as

a method of finding a market opportunity, clearly defining the problem, developing a

proper solution for that problem and validating the solution with real users. While service

design is all about taking a service and modifying it to meet the needs of the user's

business and customers.

B. Observations/Interview/Research

 Giant road frames were originally made of 6061 (ALUXX) aluminum alloy and

were also characterized by bladed forks and seat posts to reduce air resistance

(GIANT Bicycle, 2022).

 By 1998, with Mike Burrows, Giant refined the design for racing by the

professional ONCE team. This was only after initial resistance by the Union

Cyclists International and subsequent amendment to its regulations to allow for

bicycles with a sloping top tube.

 In 2003, the Total Compact Road (TCR) frame was offered in carbon fiber

construction and marketed as the TCR Composite range. In 2006, Giant added a

higher-grade carbon fiber frame marketed as the TCR Advanced frame, which

was characterized by an integrated seat post (ISP). These frames were most
notably raced at the Tour de France by T-Mobile's professional team (GIANT

Bicycle, 2022)

 Using this design, the seat post on the new frame must be cut precisely to fit the

owner by a trained Giant dealer. The TCR Advanced SL frames with ISP

continued to be raced internationally, most notably by the Rabobank team (2009-

2013), Team Giant-Shimano (2014), Giant-Alpecin (2015–2016) and Team

Sunweb (2017-2018).

 Giant introduced the CADEX carbon fiber road bike. Giant became the first

bicycle maker to apply computer-aided design and volume production techniques

to the production of carbon road bikes.

C. Recommendations

1. Have an updated bike fit chart on their page

 The sizing of the bike should also be adjusted to be in accordance with the varied

heights and sizes so that everyone may be catered to their sizes. The geometry

and suspension design will be the primary differences between brands as well as

the size of the human body.

2. Affordable bicycle during this pandemic

 The bicycle makes optimal use of space while allowing you to keep a safe

distance from other road users. Walking and cycling save space, yet in some

congested areas, the minimal required width of a sidewalk or bike track is

insufficient for pandemic times. Creating an affordable bicycle allows people to

detach themselves from crowded areas and choose to ride a bicycle for their

safety. Thus, if there are affordable bicycles available for the public to choose

from, it will play an important role in their lives, as they will be able to use them

for work and healthier living.

3. Minimalist Design for a low-cost price

 The cost of producing a commodity plays a defining role in determining

commodity prices. Commodity production costs include: raw materials, wages,

research and development, insurance, licensing fees, taxes and every other cost

incurred by real world commodity businesses.

2. Process and Capacity Design

A. Research

Capacity Planning is vital in operations management. Capacity is the rate of

productive capability of a facility. Capacity decisions need acute and careful

attention by concerned persons as almost everything of the operations is related

with capacity (www.ebookbou.edu.bd). On the other hand, (Aksin et al., 1997) on

their “European Journal of Operation Research” stated that, in planning a

manufacturing system, many basic systems design decisions are required. Included

are selecting a manufacturing technology for each product type (process selection),

determining maximum production levels of each product type (capacity planning),

and locating production resources and routing of products to required resources

(facility layout).
