DOCUMENTATION - NATURE AND WILDLIFE

● The Brainstorming plan :

Nature and Wildlife was the topic chosen by our group. We were very much amused by
the Netherlands' nature and wildlife so we thought it was important for us to learn more
about it and choose this topic for our script.
To showcase the beauty of the Netherlands, we tried to shoot a nature show "The
Nature Show with Aiden Smith ft Grace Williams''. Everyone was very excited to shoot
this show and get into their characters.
1. Aiden Smith played by Arjun
2. Grace Williams played by Gauri
3. Vera played by Ashlesha
4. Avy played by Shrisha
5. Noah Brown played by Anurag
Everyone worked very hard to put this script together. Anurag being our leader we
got proper directions, and with Gauri as the analytical writer, we could pitch the perfect
script. Ashlesha did an amazing job as an editor, she made sure there was no place for
any mistakes, and Shrisha made it so easy to communicate with the partnering school
as she was the Interviewer. Without Arjun as the photographer, we couldn't have gotten
those perfect shots every time.
But as we were a group, we helped each other in their roles and everyone had an equal
participation in doing everything.

● Why has your group decided to choose this topic?

Netherlands’ wildlife has always fascinated us. We remember seeing all the scenic
photographs on yearly calendars and wondering which country has those beautiful
lakes, forests, and animals that make it so irresistible to go visit. It was then that we got
to know that all those pictures were actually of the Netherlands. Being extremely curious,
we used to search for various animals like weasels, geese, and even Konik ponies! This
is how all of us became so interested in the nature and wildlife of the Netherlands!
When our school introduced the students to the On Stage program, we instantly knew
that if there was something that amazed us, it was the Nature and Wildlife of the
Netherlands and that is how our group decided to choose this topic for the project.

● What is the topic and the title of the TV show?

The topic of our group is Nature and Wildlife.
The title of the TV show is ‘The Nature Show with Aiden Smith ft. Grace Williams’

● Report on where you got the information about the topic

The first source of information was our partner school. The partner intercultural group
had answered a questionnaire prepared by us. Via that questionnaire, we group got a
basic idea of the nature and wildlife of the Netherlands. This information helped form a
base for our next research. The next source of information was the internet. We had
searched specifically about a few animals as they are popular in the Netherlands,
namely - the European Roe Deer, the Weasels, and the Beach Martin. Other than that,
we had also searched about nature in the Dutch state. This helped us inform, the last
part of our TV show i.e the forest of the Mastbos.
● Description of the studio
We used two DSLR cameras owned by two members of my group. The sound was
majorly captured in the camera footage, thus there was no special need for voiceovers.
The other sound-related requirements were fulfilled during the editing of the TV show.
We shot the whole show at two places.
1. School: The first part of our shooting was done in the school. Here, we used
primarily the corridors and used classrooms for shooting a few other scenes. The
shoot was done under natural light itself with the DSLR cameras. The scenes we
had here required a few props like the printout of the photos of a few animals. It
was arranged by a member of the group. No specific permission was required
however the students needed to get a signed consent from their parents allowing
them to shoot in the school whilst adhering to the COVID 19 protocols.

2. Eco Park: The second part of our shooting was done in Eco Park. It is a small
recreational park in the vicinity of our school. It has a lot of greenery and also has
a small lake passing by. We used Eco Park as we wanted to try our best to
capture the real nature of the Netherlands. To shoot there, we required
permission for photography from the PMS office. All the shooting done was under
natural lighting by the DSLR cameras mentioned before.

EVIDENCE OF COMMUNICATION

● WhatsAppChats
The following are the answers to the asked questionnaire (by Indian students) as well as a
progress report, both prepared by the students of the Netherlands.
● Video Conferences
The first video call between the Indian and the Dutch students was done in the last week
of November 2021. The timings of the call were such that both countries’ local time was
kept in mind. The Dutch students were in their school, whereas the Indian students were
at their respective homes. The students initially interacted and got to know each other as
a group which was followed by individual introductions of each group member per group.
The students gave their introductions by telling about their hobbies and what they felt
about the topics of the project. The students were all very enthusiastic and warm. It was
wonderful to see that the students knew about the Bollywood culture of India as well as
the musical culture of the Netherlands and knew about artists like Martin Garrix. It was a
wholesome experience that made students from both countries excited about the further
tasks required for the completion of the project!

COMPARISON
Our group communicated with the partner school mainly through Whatsapp chats. We
learned a lot about the nature and wildlife of each other's countries. It was seen that the
Covid-19 pandemic was a common problem faced by both the schools in making the TV
SHOW shoot. Still, with team efforts, it turned out to be a successful project on both
ends. It was a bit hard to divide and implement tasks considering all of us had to work
online. But everyone did their best and tried to do the tasks with whatever they had.
Each of the groups shared questionnaires and answered them to get to know more
about each other. We reflected on the answers we got in our TV show, and it was indeed
helpful. Each of the groups made attractive websites, where we put in all the information
and videos which were gathered. We shared our opinions on each other’s work, which
was extremely helpful in the making of reports. The partner school also made a quiz and
an interview video which was quite impressive.
The Netherlands’ climate is cold as compared to the humid (monsoon type) Indian
climate but through our conversations and videos, we could conclude that nature in both
countries is very diverse. Wildlife is not abundant, but steps are being taken for the
protection of endangered species.
We appreciate the opportunity given to us, which made us learn so much about the
Netherlands. We are extremely grateful for the efforts put in by the partner school, to
make this project fruitful and fun.

REFLECTIONS
1. Gauri
The fact that we were going to interact with foreign students was itself so exciting! The
briefing we got in the second week of October started amusing all of us so much that we
could easily get up in the middle of the night if required, to complete the work of this
project. The first video call was amazing and gave us a wonderful idea of the whole
project. That call was extremely educational! The next step was the making of the TV
show which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
As we were the Nature and Wildlife Group, we decided to create a show based on a
Wildlife Enthusiast (Aiden Smith) and a Social Media Influencer (Grace Williams) who go
to the Netherlands to explore more about the Wildlife and Nature of the Netherlands. Our
group which consisted of Anurag, Gauri, Ashlesha, Shrisha, and Arjun had a lot of fun
doing the activity. We also got to know more about the Nature and Wildlife of the
Netherlands in a fun way.
We communicated with the students of the Netherlands through a Video Call and
WhatsApp.

What more could have been done?

The Projects and Activities would have been more fun to participate in if there wasn’t the
COVID 19 situation throughout the world. It would have been easier to participate in a
few activities offline or by meeting each other.

2. Arjun
It was on October 7, 2021, that our group got the opportunity of a lifetime to collaborate
with the students of another school situated in a magnificent place, a beautiful country
named the Netherlands. As we were briefed on what our projects were throughout the
year, our excitement and eagerness increased rapidly. The first thought that came to our
minds was the very enjoyment of communicating with the students of the Netherlands
and participating in various exhilarating and fun activities such as a Video conference
with the students, a TV Show, and many more.
Our first Meeting was a Video Call on Zoom with the students of the Netherlands. It was
a fun session through which we got to know more about the students and how the
situation of COVID 19 was near them. It was an informative session as we got to know
more about various topics such as sports, food, festivals, and many more.
We even had to make a TV Show based on the nature and wildlife of the Netherlands.

3. Anurag
I was the leader of my group and it was a wonderful and enjoyable experience. I was
very excited to direct and lead the whole project. However, the group was so
self-sufficient that there wasn’t much to lead. The group after just one or two meetings
got the essence of the whole project and it indeed was a wonderful team to work with.
This shan’t be told, but it is important to mention that the topic chosen by us was a
marvel to work on and it was an unforgettable experience.

4. Ashlesha
‘Nature and Wildlife’ just hearing these magical words is enough for me to get myself
excited! I have always been very intrigued by the natural environment throughout the
world. So when I heard about this project, I was eagerly looking forward to it. During the
briefing session, we were informed about the whole procedure of the project and all
tasks we’ll be covering. I was awaiting the preparations and the process, which I was
very passionate about. The first video call was amazing and gave us a wonderful idea of
the whole project. Very informative, the call made sure we were all engaged and
interested during the TV show recording.

SUGGESTIONS
● Improvement in communication between the partner school/group
● Projects should be orientated majorly on active communication and not internet
● Virtual tours may be organised to give the students a feel of physical interaction
