Pre-reading tasks (5m)

Lead in - Tell a story about an escape the teacher or the teacher's pets had.

Prediction task - Ask Ss what do they think when it comes to escape.

While reading tasks

Reading for gist (5-7m) - Read paragraph 1 and retell the paragraph in one sentence. (They can use L1)
- Read three first sentences and the last sentence of paragraph 2.
- Summarize the main idea of the text. What is the text is about? - It is about a
crew having an accident and getitng stuck amidst the ocean but in the end, despite
all the difficulties, they escape.
- T will read the text or play the audio.
Listen and read (10m)
- T let S read aloud and then give them time to read again on their own

Guess the words (10m) - explorer, melt, frozen, sink (sank), lifeboat, survive, storm, wave, rescue. (1)
- let them check their guesses and report how many words they have guessed right.
