Mod. 16 -Representing Real-life
Situations Using Exponential Functions
A.
bas 1.
e 𝑡
2. 𝑦 = 𝑦0 (2)𝑟
3. Half-life
4. 𝑦 = 𝑦0 (1/2)𝑡/𝑇
5. 𝐴 = 𝑃(1 + 𝑟)𝑡
B. In your own words, what are the steps to represent exponential function to real-life
situation?
(1) Analyze the real-life situation. Is exponential functions are the best choice to
model the situation? If yes proceed to (2) determine where it’s Exponential Growth or
Exponential Decay. (3) find the base, the initial value coefficient, the horizontal shifting
constant, and the vertical shifting constant. (4) Write the equation of the function using the
gathered information so far from previous steps.
One program that can solve the problem is making Two-child Policy a law. Two-child
policy will decrease population by mandating couples to have only a maximum of two
children. Since it is the great increase in population that caused economic problems,
controlling population will solve economic problems.
𝑦𝐴 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Total
𝑦𝐴 3000 3000 3000 3000 3000 3000 3000 21000
𝑦𝐵 400 800 1600 3200 6400 12800 25600 50800
The tabular representation of the situation is shown.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
Now that you have gained skills …. Look for the different exponential model for the
virus.
Example 1:
Solution:
−0.3𝑡 ln e = ln 0.25/11.25
𝑡 = 12.69
Therefore, it will take approximately 13 days for the virus to spread to 75% of the
population.
MODULE 17

4.
𝑥1 > 𝑥 2
5. The base of the exponents are less than 1: 0 < 𝑏 < 1
It took me a long time to learn the value of trust. I was always afraid that someone
would try to betray me in some way. My grandmother always told me that I needed to
learn to trust others so that they could occasionally assist me, but I couldn’t seem to
bother.
Now, I finally learned to trust others and I’ve realized that if you trust others, they can
do a lot for you. This aids me in my friendship with my peers. Trust is a process that
takes time to develop. I’ve learned that trusting certain people is well-worth the risk
because it benefits my relationship with them.
*ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
1. 323𝑥2 = 411𝑥+24 2.
(𝟐𝟓)𝟑𝒙𝟐 = (𝟐𝟐)𝟏𝟏𝒙+𝟐𝟒 (𝟏𝟔−𝟏)𝟐𝒙+𝟓 = (𝟔𝟒−𝟏)𝒙−𝟏
𝟓𝒙 + 𝟔 = 𝟎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝟑𝒙 − 𝟖 = 𝟎 −𝟐𝒙 = 𝟐𝟔
𝟔 𝟖
𝒙𝟏 = − 𝟓 , 𝒙𝟐 = 𝟑
𝒙 = −𝟏𝟑
MODULE 19.
*WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
A. Fill in the blanks with the correct word or phrase to complete the sentence.
1. domain of a function
2. range of a function
3. (−∞, +∞) or ℝ
B. If you would be given a chance to reverse one thing in your life, what would it be and
why?
Probably, my age. Every one of us will get older. Our age will add up every
year and
we can’t do anything about it. I’m slowly getting to be an adult; adulthood is
waving at me.
To be honest, I’m not yet ready. I’m not prepared, and I can’t imagine myself
without my
grandparents. Thus, my age, is what I want to reverse in
my life.
(𝑥) = 1000(0.85)𝑥
𝑥∈ℝ
𝑥≥0
x represents the number of days that have passed since inflating the balloon. The
number of days is less than 0. So, the reasonable domain is 𝑥 ≥ 0 since the number of
days cannot be negative.
(𝑥) = 65000 × 1. 5𝑥
(0) = 65000 × 1. 50
(0) = 65000 × 1
(0) = 65000
The inequality represents the reasonable range of the indicated function is (𝑥) > 65000.
*ADDITONAL ACTIVITIES
Let Me Formulate
Give five examples of exponential functions in the form (𝑥) = 𝑏𝑥 and 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑎 ∙ 𝑏𝑃(𝑥) + ℎ with
its domain and range.
𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑏𝑥
1. (𝑥) = 4 . 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑠 𝑥 ∈ ℝ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒 𝑦 > 0.

3. 𝑓 (𝑥 ) = (2)𝑥 . 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑠 𝑥 ∈ ℝ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑦 > 0 .
1
5. 𝑓 (𝑥 ) = (3)𝑥 . 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑠 𝑥 ∈ ℝ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒 𝑦 > 0 .
MODULE 20.
*WHAT I CAN DO
Write your answer in a bond paper.
Situation Analysis: The number of certain type of bacteria is doubling every 15 minutes.
If there are 25 initial number of bacteria, what will be the population after 2 hours?
Data manipulation:
Let t be the number of minutes and (𝑡) for the population of bacteria.
Substitute 𝑑 = 15 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑁0 = 25
(0)
When 𝑡 = 0, (𝑡) = (25)(2) 15 = 25
Interpretation: The table and the graph show that it has an increasing function. Thus, the
population of bacteria increase at certain period of time. It is a bacterial growth/exponential
growth. The population of bacteria will be 400 after 2 hours.
*ADDITONAL ACTIVITIES
