* WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

A.
bas 1.
e 𝑡
2. 𝑦 = 𝑦0 (2)𝑟
3. Half-life
4. 𝑦 = 𝑦0 (1/2)𝑡/𝑇
5. 𝐴 = 𝑃(1 + 𝑟)𝑡

B. In your own words, what are the steps to represent exponential function to real-life
situation?

(1) Analyze the real-life situation. Is exponential functions are the best choice to
model the situation? If yes proceed to (2) determine where it’s Exponential Growth or
Exponential Decay. (3) find the base, the initial value coefficient, the horizontal shifting
constant, and the vertical shifting constant. (4) Write the equation of the function using the
gathered information so far from previous steps.

C. Our population today increases exponentially which results to some economic

problems. If you will become the president of the Philippines, what programs will you
suggest to solve the problems? Explain.

One program that can solve the problem is making Two-child Policy a law. Two-child
policy will decrease population by mandating couples to have only a maximum of two
children. Since it is the great increase in population that caused economic problems,
controlling population will solve economic problems.

*WHAT I CAN DO Conclusion:

𝑦𝐴 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Total
𝑦𝐴 3000 3000 3000 3000 3000 3000 3000 21000
𝑦𝐵 400 800 1600 3200 6400 12800 25600 50800
The tabular representation of the situation is shown.

The equation that represents the first option is 𝑦𝐴 = 3000.

The equation that represents the second option is 𝑦𝐴 = 400 ∙ 2𝑥−1.

Therefore, it is better for the person to choose the option B since she will get more money.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
Now that you have gained skills …. Look for the different exponential model for the
virus.

Example 1:

COVID-19 pandemic according to news is spreading rapidly, transferring from

human to human. It is a kind of virus that affects the human respiratory system, and it
is commonly associated with cough, pneumonia, SARS (severe acute respiratory
syndrome), and other respiratory-related infections.

Under certain circumstances, a virus spreads according to the equation (𝑡) =

where 𝑝(𝑡) is the proportion of the population of the virus spread at time t days.
How long will it take the virus to spread at 75% of the population?

Solution:

−0.3𝑡 ln e = ln 0.25/11.25

𝑡 = 12.69

Therefore, it will take approximately 13 days for the virus to spread to 75% of the
population.

5. The base of the exponents are less than 1: 0 < 𝑏 < 1

WHAT I CAN DO? `

On a sheet of bond paper, write an essay of your own experience showing your
characters towards your peers that are instilled in you by your family.

It took me a long time to learn the value of trust. I was always afraid that someone
would try to betray me in some way. My grandmother always told me that I needed to
learn to trust others so that they could occasionally assist me, but I couldn’t seem to
bother.

Now, I finally learned to trust others and I’ve realized that if you trust others, they can
do a lot for you. This aids me in my friendship with my peers. Trust is a process that
takes time to develop. I’ve learned that trusting certain people is well-worth the risk
because it benefits my relationship with them.

*ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

Solve for the value of x of the following:

1. 323𝑥2 = 411𝑥+24 2.
(𝟐𝟓)𝟑𝒙𝟐 = (𝟐𝟐)𝟏𝟏𝒙+𝟐𝟒 (𝟏𝟔−𝟏)𝟐𝒙+𝟓 = (𝟔𝟒−𝟏)𝒙−𝟏

𝟐𝟏𝟓𝒙𝟐 = 𝟐𝟐𝟐𝒙+𝟒𝟖 𝟏𝟔−𝟐𝒙−𝟓 = 𝟔𝟒−𝒙+𝟏

𝟏𝟓𝒙𝟐 = 𝟐𝟐𝒙 + 𝟒𝟖 (𝟐𝟒)−𝟐𝒙−𝟓 = (𝟐𝟔)−𝒙+𝟏

𝟏𝟓𝒙𝟐 − 𝟐𝟐𝒙 − 𝟒𝟖 = 𝟎 𝟐−𝟖𝒙−𝟐𝟎 = 𝟐−𝟔𝒙+𝟔

𝟏𝟓𝒙𝟐 − 𝟒𝟎𝒙 + 𝟏𝟖𝒙 − 𝟒𝟖 = 𝟎 −𝟖𝒙 − 𝟐𝟎 = −𝟔𝒙 + 𝟔 𝟓𝒙(𝟑𝒙

− 𝟖) + 𝟔(𝟑𝒙 − 𝟖) = 𝟎 −𝟖𝒙 + 𝟔𝒙 = 𝟔 + 𝟐𝟎

(𝟑𝒙 − 𝟖)(𝟓𝒙 + 𝟔) = 𝟎 −𝟐𝒙 = 𝟔 + 𝟐𝟎

𝟓𝒙 + 𝟔 = 𝟎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝟑𝒙 − 𝟖 = 𝟎 −𝟐𝒙 = 𝟐𝟔
𝟔 𝟖
𝒙𝟏 = − 𝟓 , 𝒙𝟐 = 𝟑

𝒙 = −𝟏𝟑
MODULE 19.
*WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

A. Fill in the blanks with the correct word or phrase to complete the sentence.

1. domain of a function
2. range of a function
3. (−∞, +∞) or ℝ

4. (0, +∞) or (ℎ,

+∞)
5. (−∞,
In ℎ) your own words, what technique or strategy can you think of to facilitate
your way of finding the domain and range of an exponential function?

A technique that could be used is by repeated exposure on the forms of

exponential
functions so that the trends of the domain and range for each form will become
familiar.
The domain of an exponential function is always 𝑥 ∈ ℝ. The range of an
exponential
function depends on the vertical shifting constant d and whether the function
increasing or
decreasing as x approaches
+∞.
If the exponential function is increasing as x approaches +∞, then the range
is 𝑦 > 𝑑.
If it is decreasing as x approaches +∞, then the range is
𝑦 < 𝑑.

B. If you would be given a chance to reverse one thing in your life, what would it be and
why?
Probably, my age. Every one of us will get older. Our age will add up every
year and
we can’t do anything about it. I’m slowly getting to be an adult; adulthood is
waving at me.
To be honest, I’m not yet ready. I’m not prepared, and I can’t imagine myself
without my
grandparents. Thus, my age, is what I want to reverse in
my life.

*WHAT I CAN DO?

Now, that you have a deeper understanding of the topic, I believe that you are ready to
solve the problems below.
1. The given function is 𝑉(𝑥) = 1000(0.85)𝑥

(𝑥) = 1000(0.85)𝑥

𝑥∈ℝ

𝑥≥0

x represents the number of days that have passed since inflating the balloon. The
number of days is less than 0. So, the reasonable domain is 𝑥 ≥ 0 since the number of
days cannot be negative.

2. The given function is: 𝑓(𝑥) = 65000(1.5)𝑥

Where 𝑥 = 0 corresponds to 2010

The number of days cannot be negative, therefore: 𝑥 > 0

The number of the population is minimum when 𝑥 = 0.

Calculate: value of (0)

(𝑥) = 65000 × 1. 5𝑥

(0) = 65000 × 1. 50

(0) = 65000 × 1

(0) = 65000

Hence, the range of the function is: (𝑥) > 65000

The inequality represents the reasonable range of the indicated function is (𝑥) > 65000.

*WHAT I CAN DO
Write your answer in a bond paper.

Field of Application: Population

Situation Analysis: The number of certain type of bacteria is doubling every 15 minutes.

If there are 25 initial number of bacteria, what will be the population after 2 hours?

Use the given formula to find the population after 2 hours.

Data manipulation:

Let t be the number of minutes and (𝑡) for the population of bacteria.

Substitute 𝑑 = 15 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑁0 = 25

(0)
When 𝑡 = 0, (𝑡) = (25)(2) 15 = 25

Presentation: Using a table of values, we have:

0 15 30 45 60 75 90 105 120
𝑃(𝑡) 25 50 100 200 400 800 1600 3200 6400

Interpretation: The table and the graph show that it has an increasing function. Thus, the
population of bacteria increase at certain period of time. It is a bacterial growth/exponential
growth. The population of bacteria will be 400 after 2 hours.
