COIL IGNITION

IGNITION COIL R & I

Removal & Installation

1. Remove throttle body from air intake chamber for access to ignition coils. See THROTTLE BODY
under FUEL SYSTEM.

2. Disconnect electrical connectors and spark plug wires from ignition coils. Remove bolts from ignition
coil mounting bracket. Remove ignition coils with mounting bracket. Remove ignition coil-to-
mounting bracket bolts and separate ignition coil from mounting bracket.

3. To install reverse removal procedure. Ensure ignition coils are properly positioned on mounting
bracket. See Fig 1. Tighten ignition coil-to-mounting bracket bolts and ignition coil mounting bracket
bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE (DISTRIBUTORLESS IGNITION SYSTEM)

1. Ignition coil primary resistance cannot be checked. Only the ignition coil secondary resistance may
be checked. Disconnect spark plug wires from ignition coil.

2. Using ohmmeter, check ignition coil secondary resistance between spark plug wire terminals on
ignition coil. See Fig 2. Replace ignition coil if secondary resistance is not within specification. See
DISTRIBUTORLESS TYPE IGNITION SYSTEM IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. Reinstall
spark plug wires.
