Learning Objective: Students will understand the complexity of living beings in order to infer
the repercussions of human action on the environment, from the local
to the global, through empathic communication in which correct
decision-making is encouraged in maintaining the dynamics of
ecosystems.

Evaluation indicators: Learners can employ a range of self-monitoring and self-correcting


strategies and interpret and use appropriate verbal and nonverbal
communication features to communicate in familiar contexts. Learners
can effectively participate in familiar and predictable everyday
conversational exchanges in order to complete a task, satisfy a need or

“Like” is one of the most commonly used words in English – and when you’re new to learning the
language, it can be a bit of a confusing one, as it has so many different meanings!

In fact – did you know that there are actually five different ways to use the word “like”? Phew!
Sounds like hard work.

You might hear it a lot in everyday spoken English – especially as it has become very popular to
use colloquially. But if you’re not sure on how to use this word correctly, then read on to find out.

Curious Fact

Some verbs can be followed by the infinitive or -ing form without a big change in meaning: begin,
continue, hate, intend, like, love, prefer, propose, start

It started to rain / It started raining

I like to play tennis / I like playing tennis

The difference in meaning is often small. The -ing form emphasises the verb itself. The to-infinitive
puts the emphasis more on the preference for, or the results of, the action. ... (emphasis more on
the result and on the habit or preference.

Reported speech is when we tell someone what another person said. To do this, we can use direct
speech or indirect speech.

In indirect speech, we often use a tense which is 'further back' in the past (e.g. worked) than the

Did you know?


The second conditional is used to express the consequence of an unrealistic action or situation in
the present or future. The situation can be:

Very improbable (1-5% probability)

Completely unrealistic (with a 0% probability)

For example,

If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world.

There is a very low probability (1% chance) that the first part of this sentence (winning the
lottery’) will happen. But if it happens, the second part is 100% certain.

If I had more free time, I would play more sport.

I don’t have a lot of free time (0%), but in that case, the second part is 100% certain.
