Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
A. Prayer
Good morning class. Good morning ma’am.
Before we start this day, may I
request everyone to stand up and
let us pray.
Pupil A, kindly lead the prayer. Let us bow down our head and let us

pupils) (Pupils will say happy if their names will

C. Drill call)

Now, let’s have a game! I will group

you into two groups. I have here a
different money combinations. I am
going to present to you a number
and you must choose from the
different money combination which
you think is the correct combination
of the number I am presenting. Yes ma’am!
Paste your chosen combination in
front.
(Pupils will look for four 25¢)
Do you get my instruction?
Okay, lets have a try. (Pupils will look for two ₽20 bill and one

Okay, let’s start then. (Pupils will look for one ₽50 bill, one
(Teacher will present ₽50.00) ₽20 bill, two ₽10 coins, and two ₽5
coins)
(Teacher will present ₽100.00)
(Pupils will look for four ₽100 bills and
two ₽50 bills)
(Teacher will present ₽500.00)
(Pupils will clap their hands)

Wow! You are all very good! Give

yourselves a round of applause.
Yes ma’am!
D. Review
(Pupils will raise their hands)
Do you remember our topic on our
previous discussion?

denominations of bills and coins.
Okay, pupil B.

Thank you, pupil B.

Yes ma’am!
Is the recognition of Philippine
money bills and coins important in
comparing value?
Very good!

B. Motivation

Now, we are going to read a story. While

reading, try to understand the story,
because later on I am going to ask Yes ma’am!

questions. Is that clear?

Okay, lets read.

The primary pupils of Dilag Integrated
School brought plastic bottles to
support the school’s “Plastic Bottle
Fund Drive.” Grade 1 pupils brought
114 plastic bottles. Grade 2 pupils
brought 231 plastic bottles, and grade
3 pupils brought 310 plastic bottles.
How many plastic bottles did the pupils
brought in all?
Did you enjoy the story?
Yes ma’am
Did you understand the story?
Yes ma’am

Really? May I try if you really did.

Who brought plastic bottles? Primary pupils of Dilag Integrated

School ma’am.
What did the pupils bring?
Plastic bottles, ma’am
Why did they brought plastic bottles?
To support their school’s plastic bottle
fund drive.

What grade brought the most plastic

bottles?
Grade 3 ma’am

What about the least? Grade 1 ma’am

What is asked in the story? How many plastic bottles did the pupils
brought in all?

655 plastic bottles ma’am

So, how many plastic bottles did the pupils
brought in all? Ma’am, we combined the number of
plastic bottles that grades 1, 2, and 3
How did get your answer? brought.

Amazing! Now, based from the story that

we read and from the questions that I
asked, do you have any idea regarding on Yes ma’am!
our next topic?
Addition ma’am.
May I ask from pupil C.

C. Presentation of the lesson

It’s true. We are going to learn about

addition, but we already learned what is
addition and we also learned how add 2 to
3-digit numbers. For today, we are going
Adding 3 to 4-digit numbers up to three
to learn about. (Teacher will let the student

the topic pasted in front)
without regrouping.

That is right. And at the end of our

discussion, you should be able to:

Add 3 to 4-digit numbers up to three

addends with sums up to 10,000 without
regrouping;

Demonstrate the steps in adding 3 to 4-

digit numbers up to three addends with
sums up to 10,000 without regrouping;
and

Cooperate in group activities and

recitation regarding adding 3 to 4-digit
numbers up to three addends with sums
up to 10,000 without regrouping.

D. Discussion
Let’s go back to the story that
we read. 114 plastic bottles ma’am.
How many plastic bottles did

grade 1 brought?
How about grade 2? 310 plastic bottles ma’am.

What about grade 3?

Awesome!
655 plastic bottles ma’am.
Now, how many plastic bottles
did grades 1, 3, and 3 brought in
all?
(Pupils will raise their hands)
May I ask any volunteer to show
(Pupil M’s solution)
how did you come up with 655
114
plastic bottles?
+231
Okay, pupil M! 345
+310
655

Thank you, pupil M. You may

now take your seat.
Pupil M’s answer is correct.
However, there are more ways
to add specially if there are 3 or
more addends. You must do it
step by step.
One way is the expanded form.
We express the numbers in
expanded form.
114 will turn to 100+10+4
231 will turn to 200+30+1
310 will turn to 300+10+0

114 = 100+10+4
+231 = 200+30+1
+310 = 300+10+0 4+1+0 ma’am!

Make sure that the digits are 5 ma’am!

properly aligned to avoid

10+30+10 ma’am!
confusion and arriving at the
wrong answer. 50 ma’am!
Add first the ones. What are the
ones? 100+200+300 ma’am!

4+1+0=? 600 ma’am!

Next, add the tens. What are the

tens?

10+30+10=?

Last, add the hundreds. What

are the hundreds?
100+200+300=?
It will become

114 = 100+10+4
+ 231 = 200+30+1
+ 310 = 300+10+0
655 = 600+50+5 =655

Remember, always write the

sum in standard from.
Another way of adding numbers
is through putting the given
numbers in a place value chart.

Hundreds Tens Ones

Take note, numbers must be
written in their appropriate place
values or columns, otherwise
we will get a wrong answer.
After placing the numbers in
their appropriate places in place 1, 2, and 3
value chart, we can now start
adding. We are going to add 6

one step at a time. Adding

should be done from right to left.
Step 1: Add the one. Hundreds Tens Ones

Who wants to write 6?

(Pupil Z write, 1000+400+50+0)

Our final answer is?

Do we all understand how to add through

Do we all understand how to add using the

place value chart?

Are we sure?

E. Application.
Okay, let us have a group
activity!
Activity 1.
I will group you into two
groups. I need one
representative from each
group ton pick what way of
adding your group should
do.
Instruction: Write the given
numbers in their appropriate
column if pick “Place value
chart” and align properly the
given numbers if you pick
“Expanded form”. Then find
the sum and encircle your
final answer.
1.) 2032+2011+3124
2.) 2021+1604+4362
Activity 2.
Let us have another
group activity with the
same groupings. Form a
straight line.
Instruction: First 3 pupils
in line in each group will
write the three addends
in the place value chart.
Then, the fourth pupil will
do the first step in
adding, the pupil next to
him/her will o the second
step in adding. Continue
doing the steps until you
get the answer.
Given: 3246+2431+4112

Activity 3. By Pair
Instruction: Express the
given numbers in
expanded form. Then find
the sum. Write your final
answer in standard form.
1.) 1150+2034+2011
2.) 1131+1140+1023
3.) 1213+1331+3124

F. Generalization

Very, very great job! We are

all very good!

IV. Evaluation
Instruction: Solve the following in both expanded form and with the
use of place value chart. Answer it step by step.
1.) 3052+4614+1231
2.) 6084+1703+2112

V. Assignment.
Instruction: Ask the birthdays of your mother and father. Then get
the year when your mother, father and you was born. Add it in
expanded from.
Example: 1986+1996+2000

1986 = 1000+900+80+6
+ 1996 = 1000+900+90+6
+ 2000 = 2000+000+00+0
