1. SUBJECT: Reading comprehension


2. AIMS OF THE LESSON:
- To develop Ss’ ability to use language in real life situations;
- To develop Ss’ speaking and reading skills;
- To introduce new vocabulary;
3. OBJECTIVES OF THE LESSON:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
- Identify the phrasal verbs with „look” and use them correctly;
- Use correctly the new vocabulary regarding components of cars
and motorbikes;
- Develop speaking and communicative skills regarding giving
and accepting advice;
4. LESSON TYPE: reading;
5. SKILLS: reading, speaking, writing;
6. CLASSROOM INTERACTIONS: frontal interaction, individual
work, group work;

7. AIDS and MATERIALS: handouts, worksheets, blackboard,


notebooks;

ACTIVITY 1: warm-up (2 – 5 min)


AIMS: - introduce the topic Mind how you go!
-to familiarize the students with the topic of the lesson;
PROCEDURE: -the teacher greets the students;
-T asks Ss: Do you have a motorbike? Do your
friends have one? Do you want to have one? What do your
parents think about a bike?
-Ss answer the questions
-T tells Ss to look at the picture from page 42
where Kelly is going out with Matt on his motorbike. What will
her grandmother worry about?
INTERACTION: teacher – students

ACTIVITY 2: reading and speaking practice (10 min)


AIM: to practice reading for gist
PROCEDURE: - students start reading the dialogue between
Kelly and her grandmother;
-teacher draws attention to the phrase „we’d
better get our shates on” – we’d better hurry;
- teacher checks the answer with the whole
class, encouraging Ss’ to explain their answers;
- Ss read the text aloud for the whole class;
INTERACTION: individual work, teacher – students, students
–teacher

ACTIVITY 3: writing (15 – 20 min)


AIM: - to identify which sentences are true, false and which one
is DK (don’t know)
-to identify phrasal verbs with „look”
PROCEDURE: -Ss read the sentences and identify them in the
dialogue, then they write T (true), F (false) or DK (don’t know)
-Ss justify their choice as well;
- Teacher checks their answers;
- Teacher asks the Ss to identify all the phrasal
verbs with „look” in the text using questions to help the Ss:
How did Kelly say she wold be OK?
- Teacher explains the meaning and elicits
sentences for further understanding;
- Teacher starts a discussion with the Ss about
other phrasal verbs with the verb „look”;

ACTIVITY 4: vocabulary (10 – 15 min)


AIM: to learn new vocabulary regarding motorbikes and cars;
PROCEDURE: -Ss read the new vocabulary from ex 4 pag 43;
-Teacher exlains the unknown words;
-Teacher gives handouts with pictures of a
motorbike and a car and gives one to each student, then she
names one or two parts of the motorbikes and cars by referring
to the numbers of the pictures;
-Ss identify the parts of the car and motorbike;
-Teacher checks the answers;
INTERACTION: group work;

Homework: Choose one of the situations given: 1. You want to


learn to drive 2. Your brother wants to get fit 3.You want to
earn some money 4.You want to change the way you look
and make a dialogue.
