Listening 4F

Reflect on what you have been going through before and during the pandemic disease outbreak.

Before (off line course)

1. What did you feel?
I felt happy to come to the class and learnt together with friends, having discussions, question and answer ses-
sions, guessing what accent did the speaker have, etc. Sometimes, it was funny to know that my friends and I
didn't get the answer or even just heard a word instead of a full sentence.

2. What difficulties did you get?

I found myself hard to concentrate, I was easily to distract, so I couldn't do my best in this subject.

3. How did you overcome the difficulties?

I knew that it's not easy to pass this subject. I also knew that I had many shortcomings, so as much as possible I
would attend the class and listen to whatever it was even though I did not understand.

4. What could the teacher and/or you do to make things work better?
I think the lecturer must give really clear instructions to the students, because sometimes students don't under-
stand what to do. The next thing is the lecturer must interact frequently with students so that good communica-
tion occurs. However, sometimes teachers also do their best but students still don't understand.

During (online course)

1. What are you feeling?
Actually I am very sad and did not think that we will be faced with a situation like this. Of course the class as
usual is more exciting. But what can I do, the lesson still must take place even in the situation like this.

2. What difficulties do you have? Explain briefly. (You can tell any difficulties like finance, connection, etc)
There are many difficulties that I experienced at this online meeting. First, I don't have a laptop so all the work I
do on my cellphone, sometimes this is frustrating if there are a lot of tasks to be done but my phone suddenly
doesn't work properly. Second, I have financial problems. The existence of this pandemic made my parents un-
able to work, while I was also dismissed from my part-time job, we had no income at all. We struggled to buy
internet quota. Third, I have 3 younger siblings who always ask me to help them with their work. Honestly that
is also an obstacle in my online lectures, my work time is less because I have to help them first.

3. How do you overcome the difficulties?

I use what I have as maximum as it can be, so that I don't miss anything. Shortages and difficulties are not my
reasons for not collecting assignments.

4. What could the teacher and/or you do to make things work better?
I think good communication must continue even if it is only a text message. Lecturers must also understand that
not all students have good economic conditions and provide a little leeway if students have difficulty having in-
ternet access.
