LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 6’

I. Objective:Identify living things and non-living things in tropical rainforest, coral reefs and mangrove swamps.
S6LT-II-i-j-5.1
Values Integration: Protecting and Caring of animals

Aral Pan: Geographical location of the Philippines

II. Subject Matter: Identifying living things and non living things in the tropical rainforest, coral reef and
mangrove swamps..
References: Textbook :Cyber Science pp.165-1677 175-177
Materials: pictures, activity cards, video clips, word cards

III. Procdure:
A. Engagement
1. Review.
Identifying vertebrates and Invertebrates using pictures.

What are the vertebrates Animals? ….the invertebrates animals? Why are they called Invertebrate? Vertebrate?

Identifying spore –bearing and cone-bearing plants

Why do you call these plants as spore bearing plants? ……. Cone bearing plants?
Where can you find these animals? ……..these plants?
Values Integration: How do you protect and care for these plants and animals?
As a child how can you help in protecting and caring for these plant and animals?

2.Motivation :

Show picture of rainforest, coral reefs and mangrove swamps.

Ask pupils to match the pictures with its name using word cards
Ask: where can you find these places? What do you think can you find in these places?
B. Exploration
1. Presentation:
Do you know that these places are called ecosystem? What can you understand about an
Ecosystem? Where can you find these ecosystem? What do you think are the living things and non- living
things you can find in these places?
Aral Plan Integration: Where can we usually find the tropical rainforest in the Philippines? The coral reef?
The Mangrove swamp?

2.Developmental activity
1. Group Pupils into 3 groups.
2. Distribute the activity cards in each group and let them do what is in the activity card

using the table below.
Living Things Non –living Things
C. Explanation
1. Reporting of group outputs.
2. Analysis and discussion of pupils answer
3.Teacher ask questions to develop critical thinking skills
Why do you think animals like rat, snake , and other animals found in rainforest ecosystem live
there?
Why do animals like small fishes, crabs ,shrimps jelly fish live in the coral reef?
Why do animals like mussels, snails worms sponges live in mangrove swamps?

D. Elaboration
1. Teacher’s discussion : Teacher discusses more information about the lesson .
What the living things and the non -living things that live in the rainforest, coral reef and the mangrove
ecosystem?
The living parts of an ecosystem, called biotic factors, are all the organisms that live in the area. The
nonliving parts, called abiotic factors, are the nonliving things in the area. All the living things together in
an ecosystem form a community
Rainforests are populated with insects (like butterflies and beetles), arachnids (like spiders and ticks),
worms, reptiles (like snakes and lizards), amphibians (like frogs and toads), birds (like parrots and toucans)
and mammals (like sloths and jaguars). Different animals live in different strata of the rainforest
There are hundreds of native fauna species that call the Philippines rainforest home, including 185
birds, 100 mammals, 160 reptiles, 76 amphibians and over 65 freshwater fish species. One of the most well-
known native Philippine animals is the Philippine Eagle
Coral reefs ecosystem has variety of corals, algae and sea sponges, which become the main support
for the whole ecosystem. ... He stated that coral reefs give protection to the organisms from wave and
storms, and that is also the reason why many small fish and small organisms live around this ecosystem.
Barnacles, oysters, mussels, sponges, worms, snails and small fish live around the roots. Mangroves
water contain crabs, jellyfish and juvenile snappers, jacks, red drums, sea trout, tarpon, sea bass, snook, sea
bass. The only sharks and barracudas are babies.

The Abiotic Factors in rainforest ,coral reef and mangrove swamps ecosystem.

rocks,shells and mud
