I. New Lesson

a. Apperception
Who among you here went to the zoo?
Me, Teacher.
What animals have you seen there?
The animals that I have seen are lions,
crocodile and snakes.
Aside from those animals, what else have you
seen?
Aside from those animals, I have also seen
a monkey, tiger and elephant.
Teacher Activity Student Activity

Where do you think these animals came from? Some of these animals came from the forest.

b. Motivation
I have here pictures showing the habitat of
those some animals you have mention earlier.

Tropical
Rainforest Desert

What are the two types of ecosystem you

have seen here in front?
The two types of ecosystem in front are the
tropical rainforest and the desert.

What have you observed with these two

ecosystems? I have observed that in the tropical
rainforest there are a lot of trees and animals while
in the desert it is dry and only plants and animals
are found.
These plants and animals are the living
things found in an ecosystem. Their interaction in
the ecosystem is important to maintain
sustainability.

Do you want to know the importance of having

many plants and animals in a certain place?
Yes, teacher.
C. Statement of the aim
So this morning we are going to discuss
about the high and low biodiversity. So, listen
attentively so that after the lesson you can able to:
a. explain the advantages of high
biodiversity in maintaining the stability of an
ecosystem;
b. create a role play portraying the high
and low biodiversity in maintaining the stability of
an ecosystem;
c. discuss ways on how to protect and
conserve biodiversity.

A. Activity
To learn more about biodiversity, you are going
to perform an activity.
Mechanics:
1. You will be grouped into four. Each group must
select a leader, a secretary and a material manager.
2. Each group will be provided with envelop which
contains the materials need in the activity.
3. Read the procedure carefully and answer the
guide questions written in the activity sheets.
4. Present your output in the class after five
minutes.

Procedures:
1. Observe the diorama below and answer
the guide questions.
Guide Questions:
1. How many plant species found in the
tundra model?
2. How many animal species found in the
tundra model?
3. Why can we see few species in this area?
Teacher Activity Student Activity
Kindly paste your answer on the board and
let’s check your answers.
Students present their output.

B. Analysis
Based on the ecosystem that you have
observed, how will you define biodiversity?
Based on the ecosystem that we have
observed, biodiversity is the variability
among organism from all courses, including
terrestrial, marine, and other aquatic
ecosytem; this include diversity within
species, between species and of ecosystem.

Based on the pictures, how will you compare

the numbers of species present in the high and
low biodiversity?
If there are many species of plants and
animals present in an ecosystem, it is
considered as high biodiversity and if there
are few species in an ecosystem, it has low
biodiversity.
Which ecosystem’s have high biodiversity?
Low biodiversity?
The ecosystems which have high
biodiveristy are the tropical rainforest and the
coral reef. Desert and tundra have low
biodiversity.
How about the variety of plants present in
the high and low biodiversity, how will you
compare each biodiversity? In the high biodiversity there are
different types of plant and tress that are
present while in the low biodiversity there are
only limited plants that are presents.
Since there is a limited number of species and
plants in the low biodiversity, how will you
describe their interaction and reproduction of the
said biodiversity? Since there is limited number of species
and plants in the low biodiversity the
interaction would be minimal and since
species have lesser interaction the interaction
How about the high biodiversity, how will would be also lesser.
you describe their interaction and reproduction of
the said biodiversity?
In the high biodiversity, there would be
great variety of species and their interaction.
Teacher Activity Student Activity
and reproduction would be better than the
low biodiversity.

So I have here a table for us to better

understand the comparison of low biodiversity
and high biodiversity.
Characteristics High Low
Biodiversity Biodiversity
Number of Many Few
Species
Variety of Many Few
Species
Interaction High Less
and
reproduction

C. Abstraction

If there is a typhoon or any natural disaster which

biodiversity will you think can cope up to the
disaster? Why?
If there would be a typhoon or any
natural disaster the high biodiversity would
be able to cope with the environmental
stressors since high biodiversity has a variety
of species so it can compensate for the loss of
other species thus minimizing the effect of the
environment

If you where to choose which biodiversity

would you prefer? Is it high or low biodiverisity?
Why?
If I were to choose which biodiverisity,
I will choose high biodiversity because it has
vast of resources in terms of food, shelter and
water in which I can survive for a longer time.

Which biodiversity do you think is capable in

maintaining the stability of an ecosystem?
The biodiversity that is capable in
maintaining the stability of an ecosystem is
the high biodiversity becuase it has a high rate
in terms of resources,interaction and
production.

D. Application
At this juncture, let us have another activity. I
have here four envelops and each member of the
group should pick one of the task you are going to
perform. I will give you 5 minutes to prepare. Am
i understood?

Group 1
 Create a jingle comparing the high and
low biodiversity.

Group 2
 Create a short role play about the high
biodiversity in terms of maintaining the
stability of an ecosystem.

Group 3
 Make an acrostic poem about biodiversity

Group 4
 Create a slogan in preserving our
ecosystem.

Values intergration
You have seen that organism in an ecosystem
are interdependent upon each other for survival.

How will you compare the ecosystem before

and todays ecosystem?
We can see the beauty and healthy
ecosystem before but now it it slowly destroyed
due to human intervention.
Teacher Activity Student Activity

Since, there are already a lot of damage in

our ecosystem, what are we going to do? Since our ecosystem has already a lot of
damage we need to preserve and conserve
our biodiversity.

As a student what can you do to preserve

and conserve the ecosystem? As a student, I can preserve and conserve
our ecosystem by throwing my garbage
properly, apply the 3R’s, turn off lights if not
used and plant more trees.

Now class, are you familiar to this song

“kapaligiran”? No, teacher.

This song talks about what happen to our

environment, how it’s been damage and how can
we preserve and conserve it.

Shall we sing the chorus part. (Student do as told.)

IV. Assessment

To test whether you have full understood our

lesson, let us have another activity. This activity is
called Quiz Show.

Mechanics:
1. Read and analyze the give statement.
2. You are given only 5 seconds to write the
letter of the correct answer on the tag
boards provided.
