We hope that though this material, you will experience meaningful learning and gain deep
understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

This module aims to provide the material necessary to introduce the mathematical concept of
geometric sequences to Grade – 10 students. This module will discuss the formula in finding the
sum of finite and infinite geometric series. It also includes interesting activities which will help
learners understand well geometric series.
After going through this module, the learner should be able to:

A. Illustrate other types of sequence (FIBONACCI and HARMONIC)


B. Solve problems involving Fibonacci and Harmonic Sequence

Fibonacci Sequence
In 1202, Leonardo Fibonacci (1170-1250) of Pisa, the most talented mathematician of the Middle Ages, published his
famous work Liber Abaci. One of the problems presented in the book gave rise to a special type of sequence: 1, 1, 2,
3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, and so on.

This sequence arose from the following problem:

The pattern shows that each successive term is the sum of the two preceding terms. These sequence was later named
after him.

This sequence is defined by the recursive formula

Fn= Fn-2 + Fn-1 where F1=F2=1.

Given the recursive formula for the Fibonacci sequence, find the following.
