Solve each problem.

1. A grasshopper jumps in a geometric sequence. Each succeeding jump is of the previous

jump. If the grasshopper’s first jump is 30 cm, find the distance the grasshopper has covered
after 5 jumps.

2. The number of bacteria in a culture triples every 3 hours. If there were 3 bacteria present at
noon one day, how many were there at noon the next day assuming that all bacteria survived?
