Answer the following questions:

1. What are the different problem or health issue mentioned in the video?
2. What are the cause of these health issue?
3. How are we going to address specific health issue?

C. Presenting Examples/instances of
new lesson Presenting the different health issues and its concern.

Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal aspects.

This definition was based on the idea that the past few decades have seen. These feelings
could be due to financial problems or mobility issues. People use the name wellness to
describe this continuous state of enhanced well-being.

Astigmatism – It is a common eye condition experienced by many young people. This

condition can be corrected by eyeglasses.
Blisters - It is a small pocket of body fluid within the upper layer of the skin.

Gingivitis – It is a gum disease. The bacterial growth in the mouth causes destruction of
the tissue surrounding the teeth.

Obesity - It is defined as “abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to

health.

Otitis Media – Children experience middle ear infection when they have viral or bacterial
infection caused by the common cold.

Scoliosis - It is a medical condition in which a person’s spine has sideways curve.

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills a. What is health?
b. What are the health issues and concerns mentioned above?
c. What are the causes of these health issue?
d. Is there anything you can do to avoid this? How?
e. If you were given a chance to help someone in the same situation, who is it and
how are you gonna help this person?

B. Establishing a purpose for the

lesson PART A: WORD SEARCH
Directions: Search the 10 ways of separating mixtures. Encircle your answer.

C. Presenting Examples/instances of DO IT YOURSELF – DECANTATION ACTIVITY

new lesson Do the following steps below for the simple experiment about decantation.

Step 1. Create a mixture of sand/soil and water on the first container.

Step 2. Allow the mixture to stand for some time until undissolved particles settle at
the bottom of the container.

Step 3. Separate the liquid substance of the mixture from the solid particles by
slowly pouring on the second container.

Step 4. Carefully observe what happens on the mixture using decantation.

D. Discussing new concepts and 1. What is the composition of a mixture that can be separated by decantation? Describe
practicing new skills briefly.

2. In doing decantation as a way of separating mixture, what is done to separate the liquid
from the undissolved particles in a mixture?

E. Developing mastery Complete the paragraph below:

(Leads to Formative Assessment)
____________ is a method for separating a mixture of a liquid and a heavier solid.
In this process, first the solid impurities are allowed to settle at the bottom of the
__________. Then, the pure liquid is ____________ carefully from the container into another
container. The _________ or solid is left behind at bottom of the container. The pouring off of
a liquid from settled solid ____________ liquid from undissolved solid.

F. Finding Practical applications of

concepts and skills What do you think are the daily activities that need the application of decantation? Cite at
least 2 activities.
1. _______________________________________________________________.
2. _______________________________________________________________.

G. Making generalizations and What is colloid? What are the common colloid mixtures that we can found at home? What
abstractions about the lesson are uses of colloid mixture?
H. Evaluating Learning TRUE or FALSE. Write T if the statement is true and F if it is false.

_________1. Decantation is a method of separating mixture primarily by means of

pouring.
_________2. In a uniformly mixed substance, decantation can be used to separate
its
components.
_________3. Slowly pouring the liquid off the container will help you do the
process
of decantation precisely.
_________4. Decantation can only be applied on mixtures that involved solid and
liquid.
_________5. You may use a filter paper to separate the undissolved particles of the
mixture from its liquid component.
