T then say “Let’s make art!” T folds the paper in half and then in half again. T asks SS to do the
same.
T holds up scissors and says “I’m cutting the paper”, then asks “What am I using?” (scissors). T
shows SS how to cut triangles along the folds, then says, “Now you try cutting”
T asks SS “What are you doing? What are you using?
Then T says “Let’s look at our papers”. T unfolds their paper and show their design. Then says
“This is paper art!”
Main:
T announces to the class that they will read about paper art.
T puts the text on display then calls out a student to read the title aloud.
T invites SS to read the text together (T reads the text aloud) with pauses at the end of each
paragraph to check for comprehension.
Possible Q prompts (Par.1): How do people make paper art? (fold the paper; then
cut it) Where do many people in China put their paper art? (on windows)
Possible Q prompts (Par.2): In Mexico, what do people cut pictures of? (flowers,
animals, people) What do people in Mexico do with their paper art? (hang it in
houses and outside)
T models thinking aloud strategy, asking SS the meanings of new words e.g., “hang paper art”
and invites SS responses
T explains that there are two parts of the text. T prompts by saying “The first part is about paper
art in China. What is the second part about? (Mexico)
T displays this Venn diagram and explains that the yellow diagram is about people in China and
the blue one is about people in Mexico.
T asks different SS to read one line from each diagram and asks if they are the same of different
(different)
T asks another S to read the white diagram and asks if what people in China and Mexico do the
same (same)
