Method Statement of Sheet Piling

Scope of work
The scope of work applies to sheet piling for vertical drive as per design and drawing to
protect soil collapse against deep excavation.

Responsibility:
The Project Engineer/site engineer is responsible for the supervision of sheet piling work.
Chief engineer will bear the overall responsibility. Project engineer/site engineer will
assist chief engineer in reviewing the Method Statement submitted by contractor and
approve the same and also to supervise the said work as stipulated in the procedure.

Documents:
1) Approved foundation drawings with depth of excavation, which shall include the
Design depth as per drawing, levels,
2) Structural drawings showing the depth, sections and location details of sheet piing.
3) Approved Method statement from contractor.
4) Safety and environmental measures.

Method of sheet piling (vertical drive):


Good for construction drawings to be obtained from the Architect/Engineer.
Engineer s to refer the Geotechnical/Structural consultant.
 Drawings w i l l b e s t u d i e d a n d r e v i e w e d well in advance viz before the
start of work and all clarifications have to be obtained from the structural
consultant.
 Sheet piling setting out plan will be demarcated with reference co-ordinates and levels.
It is to be noted that the survey bench marks are away from the sheet piling line in order
to prevent the damage .
 Cable or utilities scanning has to be done in order to avoid the cables and pipes and
underground utilities damage. It is recommended to go for trial pits so that underground
utilities can be found out.
 Necessary actions to be taken to protect underground utilities.
 Machinery and materials to be mobilized at site for sheet piling work.
 Work to be started from one end and proceeded to another end as per planning.
 Rig is erected along the sheet piling line on a solid base measuring the safety norms.
 Permit for height work / hot work will be taken and all the labors involved will sign
daily for safety awareness.
 Verticality of ISMB inserted will be checked thoroughly so that after excavation
scouring should not happen.
 A signal man will be appointed for the purpose of shifting plates and girders by
means of hydra.
 Provision for drainage is to be made with sufficient pumps and collecting if required.
 All the area is to be barricaded with GI hand railing and sign boards such as “Sheet
Piling Work In Progress, Stay Away” to be kept in all languages which can be
understood by workers easily.
 Sufficient flood lights have to be provided at regular intervals.

SAFETY MEASURES:

 All the workers engaged in work shall wear PPE at all times such as Safety
helmets, safety shoes, Safety harness or belts, Gloves etc.
 All the workers have to be briefed about the excavation and safety measures
required for excavation.
 All the working area shall be barricaded with GI hand railing and should be strong
enough to take the loading of human beings slanting on it.
 Sign boards to be kept at all visible places and to be protected.
 Close supervision and recording by site engineer/ supervisor is required.
 Place fire extinguisher / first aid box near the access.
 In case of dry weather, Sprinkle water to prevent dust pollution, and cover the soil
stacking area with canvas.
 All the machinery has to be checked by the operators every morning before the start
of work and to fill the check lists with signature.
 The speed limit of hydra to be controlled.
