1.0 INTRODUCTION
Sungai Pendang Flood Mitigation Project has been proposed at Terusan Selatan (Southern
Canal) to lower casualties cause by flood event and at the meantime to improve systematic
agricultural controlling water level alongside the canal.
This method statement is produced to outline the sequence of activities, method, resources
required and safety precautions to execute the constructions works for bridge works. Such
shall cover 19 numbers and the type of bridge for structure as stated below:
i. Bridge type 1 (5 Nos)
ii. Bridge type 2 (14 Nos)

This work method statement outlines the associate works for bridge that covers in the
Construction Drawings by Consultant, RPM Engineers Sdn Bhd and Project Specifications.
Bridge works consist of construction substructure and superstructure. Substructure included
abutment and pier head. Superstructure comprise of beam, deck slab, curtain wall, approach
slab and kerb.
The scope of construction activities also will be covering several work procedures which are:

▪ To be set up the actual position and limitation area of work using the peg so
that construction can be carried out exactly accordingly to the plan.

4.1 Materials
The main materials used for this construction of Rip rap works shall be approved by
consultant prior to delivery and used on site.
i) Riprap stone
ii) Non- woven geotextile
Plant machinery and equipments will be increased to meet the schedule time.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project Manager is responsible for overall project execution, quality and safety. Adopt
a leading role with respect to Contractor’s quality and safety procedures. The PM is
responsible for the overall implementation of this method of statement. The Project
Manager shall ensure that the key personnel are well aware of the specifications and
method of statement.
2. CM / Project Engineer shall arrange all materials, equipment, safety related items
and manpower and direct the Site Engineers & Foremen to resort appropriate action
for the smooth execution of the works.
3. Safety personnel shall be responsible for safe working environment, conditions and
take precautions the piling operations in accordance with the requirements of the
relevant laws and bylaws. Coordinate with Site Engineer to identify potential hazards
before works and advise methods of safe working from new developments.
4. Surveyor shall be responsible for setting out for levels, layout and lines and establish
top levels. Ensuring setting out books are properly maintained and filed when
completed. To coordinate with the Consultant surveyor in determining coordinates,
levels and limits. The pile position shall be marked with suitable identifying pin, peg
or marker.
6. Site Engineer shall ensure that all works are carried out according construction
drawing. He shall direct the surveyor for the setting out lines and levels in
concurrence from the Construction Manager / Senior Civil Engineer.
7. Specially qualified foremen shall maintain at site together with the necessary gangs
of trained labour experienced in the installation of piles.

Consultant HSE guidelines and management plan shall be strictly adhered during the
substructure and superstructure works.
Safety of the personnel and properties is to be given prime importance and all the works to
be carried out without causing any accidents or property damages.
Adequate access and egress should be provided to the site for work. All the personnel
should wear basic personnel protective equipment. All the equipment, tools and tackles
being used for the work should be in good working condition and maintained. All the
personnel will be provided with toolbox talk on the procedures to execute the work safely.
Necessary risk assessment of the activities is reflected in the enclosed risk assessment.

Quality controls that are apply in bridge works are :
a) To check the validity of calibration certificate for related instruments us
b) To check the materials used are approved and in good condition before works
started.
c) To conduct inspection with Client / Consultant using request for inspection using
Works Inspection Request (WIR).
