1.0 INTRODUCTION

This procedure purposes to provide rigorous quantitative measurements of the rock

character within the major rock units and mine design sectors and to check on the
validity of the design data in the geotechnical model.

Scope of this procedure is for all MSM/TTN Employees, Contractor Mining Employees,
all Contracted Services Employees and Visitors when undertaking geotechnical
mapping.

2.0 SAFETY

2.1 PPE Requirements

Minimum Required: Hard Hat

Steel capped safety boots
Safety glasses with side shields
Collared shirtSafety vest

Optional equipment: Gloves

Disposable ear plugs
Goggles
P2 disposable dust mask
Sunscreen and insect repellent

2.2 Hazard and Risk

Hard Hat: whenever out of vehicle within the pit limits.

Steel Capped Safety Boots: whenever on the mining lease.
Safety Glasses: whenever outside buildings or vehicle, or in vehicle if
windows down.
Sunvisor: to be used over hard hat as required.
Gloves: used while digging, as required.
Disposable Ear Plugs: as required when working near drilling rig.
Goggles: as required when working in extremely dusty conditions.

P2 Disposable Dust Mask: as required when working in extremely dusty conditions.

Sunscreen and Insect Repellent: use as required.

Note: Always be aware of overhanging rocks when working near any face or pit wall. If a
section of a wall appears too dangerous, do not to work beneath it. An apparent dip and
dip direction and an approximate position will suffice in such situations. In some
circumstances, it may be possible to call the Production Supervisor and organise for the
removal of the hazard.
The following are specific safety precautions to be followed for geotechnical mapping.
These do not override the MSM/TTN Open Pit safety standards.
 Before venturing onto a slope, view the area from a distance in order to
identify any potential instability.
 When cracks or slumps are evident do not venture onto the unstable block.
 Do not linger beneath untidy or undercut slopes.
 Before venturing close to a bench or pit wall stop some metres short and
approach cautiously.
 When walking on benches walk near the inside of the bench.
 Never climb more than 1m above the bench.

3.0 GEOTECHNICAL MAPPINGFACE MAPPING WORK PROCEDURE

This procedure details the geotechnical mMapping of production and non-production

faces and entering the information into the Access database for use in the Surpac
blockout process.pit wall and or on around the pit.

3.1 Equipment Required

 Paint Can – RED ONLY

 Compass and inclinometer
 Face Mapping Sheet (CORP-GEO-FM-006 Face Mapping Sheet )Up datest
pit topo situation map
 Folder
 Lead pencil and coloured pencils
 Tape measure

3.2 Before Mapping the Face

3.2.1 Preparation

 Get Survey to putmark out end points showing on the northings and easting on
the starting mapping point. which Grade Control drilling was performed to cover
the pit floor.
 Place pegs at these points with the northing and easting written on them with
permanent markers.
 Once the end points are marked out place a bamboo peg along the northing at 5
metre intervals and write both the northing and easting on the peg.
 Do this for every 10 metre grade control section.
 When extracting the ore make the excavator operator dig along this northing
leaving the peg in tack so that it can be read when you are mapping the face.
 As soon as part of the face is exposed it can be mapped.

Additional Information

Any information that can be found for the area should be checked eg face maps
from the previous bench, Grade Control RC drilling information, trenching
information and the major structures in the area. Of special importance is getting
hold of old Exploration drill hole sections.

Setting up for face mapping

Water Truck
If required, call the Mining Contractor to get a water truck to wash down the face. If a water
truck is needed the Geologist should stay at the face to instruct the water truck driver and
supervise the washing down of the face.

Overview
Spend some time walking parallel the face, to identify the broad geological features and any
potentially hazardous areas. Do not start the face map until the broad geology is clear and the
entire face has been checked for hazards.

Face Mapping
Only personnel inducted for the Mine area may undertake these mapping.
The Mine Geologist or the Geotechnical Technician will undertake Geotechnical
mapping.

3.2.2 Mark Up System

As per original grade control section.

3.2.3 Mapping Direction

Working in one direction, paint consecutively increasing numbers at the toe position on
the wall to indicate where there are lithological or structural features to be recorded.
Structural features are recorded by picking the feature type and recording the dip and
dip direction (for planes) or azimuth and plunge (for linear features).

On the mapping section form (1:100 scale) write the northing at the top of the page and
then along the section write the easting at every 5 metre interval.

3.2.4 Sketch Map

As the mapping progresses, it is important to also draw an accurate sketch of recorded
features on the face mapping sheet. Use the appropriate colours for lithologic material
types and appropriate symbols for structural features.

3.2.5 Digital Photography

Each face or geological data will be photographed digitally. (A system will be put
together to determine the location distance from the face to take the photograph in order
to try and achieve uniformity of photos. The survey pegs will need to be included in the
photograph)

3.3 Data Collection

 Undertake geological mapping of recently exposed pit wall (interim or final) noting
main geological formation (e.g. Basaltic Andesite), dip, strike and nature of any
shears or contacts e.g. sheared faulted weathered or altered.
 Use form CORP-GEO-FM-0004 Geotechnical Bench Mapping Sheet.
 Note all faults or shears longer than about 30m with dip / dip direction, thickness, and
nature of infill or fault zone.
 Special note should be made of any changes to the extent of disturbance to the rock
mass e.g. more opened joints or the location of chimney caves.
 Special note should be made of the stope wall intersections, nature of fill, nature of
surrounding wall rocks.
 Update the base plan at 1:1000 scale of the final / interim wall in the Mine Office.
 Walls exposed previously and not mapped will be restricted by access. Digital
photographs should be used to construct the geological map, where safety
considerations do not allow access to the bench or berm.
 Joints or faults mapped should be input into a stereoplot to allow comparison with
previously mapped joint sets.

3.3.1 Office Procedure 1

When back in the office, make sure that the face mapping sheet is clean and legible.
Finalise any colouring or updates that are required.

3.3.2 Office Procedure 2

File the face mapping sheet with other same data from that bench.
