Teacher Khalid: Arafat? Arafat: Hi sir!
(The rest of the class were called)
B. CHECKING OF ASSIGNMENT
Teacher Khalid: Alright class. Are you done
with your assignments? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Ok, now get it so that we can
check it. Exchange papers with your
seatmates. (The students will get their assignments and
will exchange their papers with their
seatmates.
Teacher Khalid: Before that, does anyone of
you encountered any problems or difficulties
in answering your assignment? Students: None sir.

C. REVIEW OF PAST LESSON

(Teacher Khalid reviewing the past lesson
while checking the assignments)
Teacher Khalid: Alright, remember our high-
two and high-three classroom policies are ‘be
attentive’ and ‘be participative’ because we
will be checking your assignments and at the
same time reviewing our lesson yesterday.
Got it class? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright! Who can recall what
was our lesson yesterday? (Anna raise his right hand)
Teacher Khalid: Yes Anna, what was our past
lesson? Anna: 5 Main Components of Automotive
Starting System
Teacher Khalid: Yes, very good Anna! Who
can give me the 5 components of starting (Student 1 raised his right hand)
system? Student 1: The five components of
Teacher Khalid: Ok, go on __________. automotive starting system are the ignition
switch, a neutral safety switch, the starter
solenoid, the starter motor, and the batteries.
Teacher Khalid: Ok, very good _________!
Alright, now, the first question is ‘What
component of a starting system that is an
electromechanical device which produces a
mechanical movement?’. What is your answer
Anna? Anna: Starter Solenoid sir.
Teacher Khalid: Very good! Solenoid is the
correct answer for the number 1. ________.
Now, please read the 2nd question _______
and state your answer. Student 4: To start the automobile engine, the
crankshaft must turn slow enough for air-fuel
mixture to enter the cylinder, is it true or
false? Why? My answer is false because the
crankshaft must turn fast enough in order for
air-fuel mixture to enter the cylinder.
Teacher Khalid: Excellent ________. It is
right that the crankshaft must be fast enough
so that the air-fuel mixture will enter the
cylinder. Now for the last question, ‘What is
the purpose of electric starter?’. Anyone? (The Student 5 raise his right hand)
Teacher Khalid: Yes _______, go on. Student 5: It converts electrical energy from
the battery into mechanical energy that rotates
the crankshaft.
Teacher Khalid: Very good _______.
Remember the video clip that you watched
yesterday? What is it? Students: Yes sir. It shows how electrical
starter makes crankshaft rotate very fast.
Teacher Khalid: Yes, I think you have learned
a lot yesterday regarding the starting system
of a car. Do you have any questions or
clarifications regarding that topic class? Students: None sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, does everyone got a
perfect score? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Wow, excellent! Around of
applause for everyone! (The students clap their hands)
Teacher Khalid: I see that we have no
problem with our discussion yesterday
because everybody got the perfect score.
Again, good work class!
D. MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY
Teacher Khalid: As what we have tackled
yesterday, the starting system of an
automotive, the whole process involves air-
fuel mixtures right? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, then, base on the term
‘air-fuel’, does the fuel takes a very important
role to start a car? Do you think a car can start
without the fuel? Students. No sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, let’s watch this video
first. (The students are watching the video clip)

(The video ended)

Teacher Khalid: What the video is all about
class? Students: Fuel sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, our lesson for today
is all about the fuel system of a car. Cars
cannot run without fuel, it serves as the blood
of a car. Although there is already the
existence of electric cars, the cars that has fuel
system is what common to us right? Students: Yes sir.

E. OBJECTIVES
Teacher Khalid: Before we start the lesson for
today, I want you to be informed that we have
three learning objectives for today. We will
achieve all of this right? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Then, please be attentive.
Everybody read. Students: At the end of the lesson, the learners
will be able to:
▪ Appreciate the purpose of Fuel System
in an automobile.
▪ Identify the main elements of fuel
system and..
▪ Demonstrate how Fuel System works.

F. UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULT TERMS

Teacher Khalid: Alright class, let’s proceed to
the definition of terms. Here are some of the
difficult terms that we may encounter during
our discussion. First is Diesel, please read. Students: Diesel is an internal combustion
engine in which heat produced by the
compression of air in the air cylinder is used to
ignite the fuel.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, for your information,
there are several types of fuel, diesel and
gasoline is the most common. An engine can
use either of the two, a diesel engine is about
20% more thermal efficient than a gas engine.
The thermal efficiency of a heat engine is the
percentage of heat energy that is transformed
into work. You may hear from your father that
a diesel engine is more frugal than the gasoline
one, so in the future, you may consider getting
a car that has diesel engine. Any question
class? Students: None sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, then let’s proceed to
the next definition. Students: Motor is a machine that converts
electrical energy to mechanical energy.
Teacher Khalid: Ok, is a car a motor? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, very good. Next
definition is. Students: Nozzle is a cylindrical or round
spout at the end of a pipe, hose, or tube used to
control a jet of gas or liquid.
Teacher Khalid: Ok so, this is nozzle.
(Teacher Khalid showed a picture over the
screen)
Now you know. Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Next definition is Ignition.
Please read.
Students: Ignition is the action of setting
Teacher Khalid: Alright, is there any something on fire or starting to burn.
clarifications regarding those words?
Students: None sir.

G. ACTIVITY
Teacher Khalid: Now, we’re going to have an
activity, are you excited? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Now, group yourselves into two. (The students started to group their selves)
Teacher Khalid: This activity is a race! Choose
your player. Here’s the mechanics, I will be
going to display scrambled words on the screen
and the player shall guess the word, the player
may request for a help to his groupmates secretly,
no shouting of answer. The one who will reach
the finish line first will be the winner. 10 points
for the winner and 5 points for the other group.
Any question, class? Students: None sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, have you chosen your
players? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, so let the race begin!
(The game begins)
(The game ends)
Teacher Khalid: Alright, so the winner is group
1. Around of applause for group 1. (The students will clap their hands)
Teacher Khalid: That was an amazing race for
everyone, did you enjoy it, class? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Those words are the
components of fuel system, we will elaborate
them today.
H. ABSTRACTION
Teacher Khalid: Alright, again, what is our Students: Functions of Automotive Fuel
lesson for today? System.
Teacher Khalid: Ok, today we will be going to
discuss the “Functions of Automotive Fuel
System”. What is fuel system and how does it
function in an automotive or a car. Let’s start
with what is fuel system. Anyone who have prior
knowledge or even just an idea of what is fuel
system? What do you think it is? (Student 6 raise his right hand)
Teacher Khalid: Yes _______. Student 6: It is where the fuel is being
processed in order for a car to move.
Teacher Khalid: Very good! You are right
______. Thank you. Fuel system, in other words,
is the combination of parts needed to carry fuel
into and out of the engine. Now class, do you
think fuel system is important or not? Students: Yes sir, very important.
Teacher Khalid: Yes, of course. We cannot run a
car without fuel and that’s why today, there’s a
lot of gasoline stations everywhere. Which do
you think would last longer, the cars with fuel or
the electric cars? Students: The cars with fuel sir.
Teacher Khalid: Yes, you’re right! We’ve
mentioned that although electric cars are already
existing, but in reality, fuel cars are the most
common in market and that the new innovations
electric cars have not guaranteed to run for years
as long as what fuel cars does. Now please read
this. Students: The fuel system is responsible for
delivering fuel to the engine as needed. It is
made up of the fuel tank, fuel pipeline, pump,
filter (includes primary filter), and injectors or
carburetor.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, the fuel system
processes the fuel as the main contributor for the
engine of a car to work. The main components of
this system are fuel tank, pipeline, pump, filter,
and injectors/carburetor. Diesel engine uses
injectors and gasoline engine uses carburetor.
Fuel system are one of the most important
operations in a vehicle. There are two main types
of fuel systems, return-type and returnless-type.
__________ please read the return-type fuel
system. Student 7: A return-type fuel system is one that
is designed with a fuel pressure regulator that
diverges the fuel pressure based on the power
of vacuum suction from the engine’s intake
system.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, thank you ________.
So, the purpose of the pressure variant here is to
ensure that the amount of fuel pressure and flow
remains equal and consistent when the fuel
reaches the injectors. This type of fuel system
uses fuel pressure regulator while on the other
hand, the returnless-type of fuel system is, please
read _________. Student 8: A returnless-type fuel system is one
that is designed to use the powertrain control
module (PCM) to regulate fuel delivery.
Teacher Khalid: Ok, so the returnless-type fuel
system uses powertrain control module (PCM).
From the word itself which is power, returnless-
type use electronical device/component with the
help of FRPS and FPDM. This means that the
obvious difference is the return-type does it
mechanically while returnless-type is
electronically that’s why fuel doesn’t return in
returnless-type is because of the automatic PCM
feature and the return-type with its pumps are run
at maximum voltage supplying as much fuel as
they can then the FPR returns excessive fuel back
to the tank. Any question, class? Student 9: Sir what does FRPS, FPDM, and
FPR stands for?
Teacher Khalid: Ok, very good question _____.
FRPS stands for Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and
the FPDM is Fuel Pump Driver Modules, these
two acts supportively. Once FRPS detects
excessive fuel intake then FPDM actively adjust
fuel flow. While the FPR is Fuel Pressure
Regulators in return-type fuel system. It allows
excess fuel to come back to the fuel tank.
Understand? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, now, let’s move on how
the fuel system function. Take note that we will
be discussing the return-type fuel system since it
is the common type of fuel system in cars. Now,
we’re going to explore it step-by-step while
explaining the involved components. Where do
you think the whole process will start? Students: Fuel tank.
Teacher Khalid: Very good, alright, Fuel tank is
a fuel storage. Where do you think is the fuel tank
in this diagram __________? (Student 3 pointed the fuel tank in the picture)
Teacher Khalid: Very good! Now, class, when
your father refills your car with fuel, fuel goes
down all the way in the fuel tank. It is where the
whole process starts. To proceed to the next
component or let’s say next station, we need,
please read. Students: Fuel Pipeline System are pipelines
that provide fuel supply to other fuel elements.
Teacher Khalid: Fuel Pipelines serves as the
pathway of the fuel. Also, the whole process will
not be productive without the Fuel pump
because, please read. Students: Fuel pump is a device which
pumping the fuel from tank to the engine.
Teacher Khalid: Yes, this is the reason why fuel
move from one component to another. Take note
that there are two fuel pumps involve in here,
first is the mechanical lift pump which is the one
who primarily move fuel from tank to the Main
engine fuel filter while the second one is the
Mechanical fuel injection pump. Do you
understand the purpose of this fuel pump class?
Teacher Khalid: Alright, from the tank, the Students: Yes sir.
second station is the primary filter. Take note that
there are also two Fuel filters involve in here, the
Primary Filter and the Main Engine Fuel filter.
So, what does this primary filter component do?
Students: Primary filter has ‘water in fuel
sensor’ that separates any water mixed in the
Teacher Khalid: Alright, primary filter filters or fuel.
separates, incase there is water mixed in the fuel.
With the help of Mechanical lift pump, the fuel
moves on to the? Students: Main Engine Fuel Filter.
Teacher Khalid: Very good! This 2nd fuel filter
purifies the fuel. It cleanses the fuel from
different types of dirty, dusty and so on. When
the fuel purified, it moves on to? Students: Mechanical Fuel Injection Pump.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, mechanical fuel
injection pump distributes fuel to the injectors.
Please read. Students: Injectors is devices in which supply
fuel and air to create air-fuel mixture.
Teacher Khalid: Air is also necessary in this
process. The air-fuel mixture is combusted in
combustion chamber with enough pressure and
then translate the energy allowing the engine to
work efficiently. This is what we called ignition.
(Teacher Khalid displays a GIF on the screen)
Teacher Khalid: Ignition has 4 strokes; intake,
compression, combustion, and exhaust. Note that
this ignition happens rapidly and usually there’s
four chambers working at the same time. Alright,
so the excess fuels from the injectors goes back Students: Yes sir.
to the fuel tank through fuel pipelines. Also, Students: None sir.
there’s always excess fuels in the mechanical
fuel injection pump which also goes back to the
fuel tank through pipelines. Is everything clear
class?
Teacher Khalid: Any question class?
I. ANALYSIS
Teacher Khalid: Alright, very good! Now, I am
going to ask you some questions. What
component where the fuel being stored? Student 3: The fuel tank sir.
Teacher Khalid: Very good! Next question is,
why is it necessary to have fuel filters? Student 4: Sir, it is because raw fuel is not
always clean and the fuel filters purifies it.
Teacher Khalid: Very good! Fuel filters is very
important, without it, fuel may clog with
contaminants inside and cause a restriction in the
fuel flow causing an appreciable drop in engine
performance as the engine struggles to draw
enough fuel to continue running normally.
J. GENERALIZATION
Teacher Khalid: Alright class, let’s recap the
whole process. Anyone who can explain in front
the process of fuel system? (Student 5 raise his right hand)
Teacher Khalid: Yes ____________. Please go
in front. Student 5: Ok sir. Let’s start from the fuel tank.
The fuel is being carried away by the Fuel
pumps through the Fuel Pipelines. The water
is being filtered out here in the Primary Filter
and then move to the Main engine fuel filter.
The purified fuel will move to mechanical fuel
injection pump to be distributed to the injectors
connected to combustion chambers where the
combustion of air-fuel mixtures happens and
then the excess fuel from the injectors and
from the mechanical fuel injection pump will
be returned to fuel tank.
Teacher Khalid: Very good __________! You
got it all correct. Around of applause to
__________. (The students clap their hands)
Teacher Khalid: Any questions and clarifications
to our lesson class? Students: None sir.
Teacher Khalid: Alright, very good. It seems like
you’re ready for our activity.
K. APPLICATION
Teacher Khalid: Alright class, same groupings,
so you will be divided into two, let’s see if you
really understand our lesson. Now go to your
groups. (The students go to their groups)
Teacher Khalid: Please listen. Here’s the
instruction: I will be going to play a very old
video of how fuel system works in the 90’s old
cars. This video is entitled “Down the Gasoline
Trail” which produces by the Jam Handy
Organization. As a group, you will collaborate
and do brainstorming by giving commentaries on
the video. Compare the process in the video from
what we have just discussed today and answer
the question “does the fuel system improvised
compare to the older versions? Why or why
not?”. Write your answers in 1 whole sheet of
paper and then one will present your work in
front. And here’s the rubric of this activity. 1st, is
the teamwork with 10 points and this depends on
the participation of each one of you. I will be
going to observe your groups while doing
collaborating. 2nd is the content of your work
which takes half of your grades, 15 points. And
the last one is the presentation of your work
which is 5 points. That’ll be a total of 30 points. Students: None sir.
So, do you have any questions or clarifications
regarding the activity and the criteria? Students: Yes sir.
Teacher Khalid: Then, here’s the video.
(Teacher Khalid played the video) (The students are doing the activity with their
Teacher Khalid: Alright, so this activity is only groupmates)
good for 10 minutes. Are you ready?
Teacher Khalid: Then, your time starts now!
(activity started)

(The teacher will be observing each group)

(10 minutes has passed) (The group 1 presenter presents their work)
Teacher Khalid: Alright, time’s up class! Please
prepare for your presentations. Group 1 will be (The students clap their hands)
the first presenter. You will only have 2 minutes
to present your work. The floor is yours. (The group 2 presenter presents their work)
Teacher Khalid: Alright! Very good group 1.
Around of applause please. (The students clap their hands)
Teacher Khalid: Next, group 2 may now present
their work. (The students clap their hands)
Teacher Khalid: Very good group 2! Around of
applause please.
Teacher Khalid: Congratulations to both groups,
you got all the perfect score. Around of applause!
Teacher Khalid: As you noticed that there’s
several changes in the process of fuel system of
what we’ve discussed which is the modern fuel
system compare to the one in the video which
was taken during the year 1935. The major
changes are the doubled Fuel Filter of the modern
fuel system, the primary filter as well as the Main
Engine Fuel Filter which ensures the extra
protection for the combustion of air-fuel mixture. Students: Yes sir.
Another thing is that in the video, it uses Students: None sir.
carburetors rather than the injectors from our
discussion, right?
Teacher Khalid: Any questions?

L. EVALUATION
Teacher Khalid: Alright, please put everything
away from your arm chairs except your ball pens.
We will have a short quiz. (The students prepare for the quiz)
Teacher Khalid: I will give you 5 minutes to
finish the test.
(The teacher will be distributing the test
questionnaires)
Alright, your time starts now!
(quiz started) (The students will take the quiz)
Teacher Khalid: Time is up class! Please
exchange your papers with your seatmates and
let’s check your quiz.
(The teacher showed the answers) (The learners checked the quiz)
Teacher Khalid: Who got the perfect score? Students: Student 3 sir.
Teacher Khalid: Wow, very good! Around of
applause please! (The students clap their hands)
Teacher Khalid: Alright class, next time all of
you must get a perfect score okay? Learners: Yes sir.
