Research Title:
Garbage Incinerator with Electric Power Generator and Built-in Air Filter
Summary:
Waste management is one of the most common problems that our country is
facing. Improper waste disposal imposes various risks to both environment and public
health. Aside from the waste crisis, the Philippines also faces a threatening electric
energy crisis that leads to power shortages. The shortage of energy supply has a huge
impact on our daily life. The researchers, however, came up with the idea of creating a
garbage incinerator with an electric power generator and built-in filter to give aid to
these problems. Thus, the researchers come up with the idea of creating a garbage
incinerator with an electric power generator and built-in air filter as a solution to
minimizing garbage while supplying electricity.
Research Background:
Waste management is one of the most common problems that each country is
facing. The mounting amount of waste is damaging our environment and public health.
Here in the Philippines, the amount of waste has increased recently due to population
growth and the use of massive products. Apart from the waste crisis, the Philippines
also faces a threatening electric energy crisis that leads to power shortages, especially
during the summer season.
The global trash crisis is threatening human lives across the world. According to
Castillo (2003), in a day, there is an estimated ton of garbage collected in a day was 8,
636, just in Metro Manila. Improper waste disposal imposes various risks to both
environment and public health. Decomposing garbage releases dangerous gases that
pollute the air, causing respiratory diseases. While leachate can contaminate the
groundwater system and creates poisonous water.
Besides pollution, the electric energy supply shortage is also one of the serious
problems we are facing here in the country. According to the International Trade
Administration (2020), the Philippines is in an energy crisis as the Malampaya gas fields
deplete which supplying 30% of the North Luzon energy consumption and is expected
to be depleted by the year 2024. The shortage of energy supply has a huge impact on
the whole region, the rate of electricity demand rises during the time of the pandemic,
considering electricity as one of the necessities of life.
