Lab activity title: Water vs. Acetone vs. Alcohol

INTRODUCTION:
In this experiment we will know the difference of
water, acetone and alcohol by observing to it and using
ice cubes.
FORMULATE HYPOTHESIS:
We are always using ice cubes in our drink so it will
get cold. If we put the ice cubes in the water the ice
cubes will go up I think then if we put ice cubes in
the alcohol it will go down.
IV. Data and Results (Data gathering) (Observation: You
can draw/ capture image/ video of your mini-task)
Note: While waiting for 20 minutes, you may proceed to
procedure
V. QUESTIONS FOR ANALYSIS
A. Is there a difference in the volume after 20
minutes? If there is a difference, explain what could
be the reason for such difference?
The amount of the water did not change but the alcohol
become less a little and the acetone is more less.

B. What property of water is exhibited in this

activity? Describe a situation that illustrates the
importance of this property of water to life.
Evaporative Cooling. The water has high heat of
vaporization like the acetone it can evaporate easily
if we leave them unsealed

2.Put an ice cube into a glass of water. Observe your

set-up.
A. Did the ice cube sink or float? Explain the reason
for your observation.
The ice cube did float in the water because the ice is
about 9% less dense than the water. The water is
heavier, so it displaces the ice.

B. What property of water is exhibited in this set-up?

Explain the ecological importance of this property of
water and give an example.
Density. The water expands when it freezes. The news is
giving as sad news where we saw the ice in our world is
becoming water because of the climate change, it
saddens our heart but we are not doing anything to save
these poor polar bears.
C. Describe two other properties of water and explain
their importance to organisms.
Polarity is where the water molecules are slightly
charged on the both ends. Cohesion is where the
hydrogen holds the water molecules together. The living
organisms need water in order to survive like us people
we need water to hydrate ourselves to generate energy
during the respiration process.

VI. CONCLUSION
The ice is floating every time we put in the water
because the water that is solid is more less dense than
the liquid water.

VII. APPLICATION
In this experiment I learned that the acetone is easy
to dissolve if it is not sealed so starting now
whenever I use the acetone I will close the lid more
tightly so that it will not dissolve.
