CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

What is a sleep disorder or a problem with sleep? An illness that also affects the ability to get
adequate quality sleep is a sleep disorder. Often all of us come across sleeping problems. The
everyday routine is usually due to stress, travel, sickness, or other temporary interruptions. However,
if you frequently have trouble getting to sleep at night, wake up feeling exhausted, or feeling sluggish
during the day, you may suffer from a sleep disorder.

In the daytime, sleep issues cause more than just sleepiness. It may seriously affect your
mental and physical health, including your mood, energy, and ability to manage stress. Quality sleep,
when you want to feel your best, stay safe, and perform to your ability, is a requirement, not a
privilege.

Having trouble sleeping consistently can be a stressful and debilitating experience. You sleep
poorly at night, which leaves you in the morning feeling dead-tired, and any energy you have easily
disappears during the day. But then no matter how tired you feel at night, you can have trouble
sleeping. And so, the loop begins again. But you do not have to deal with a sleeping disorder. There
are many things you can do to determine the root causes of your sleep disorder and enhance your
sleep, wellbeing and quality of life.

We chose this topic, for the reason that many people do not get enough sleep, especially
during today's situation. During the pandemic, people are stuck in their homes and are not able to
spend time outside. The purpose of this research is we want to know what the effects of a pandemic
on us are, especially teenagers. Knowing that most teenagers sleep late at night with different
possible reasons. Their reasons might be because of poor time management or it could also be that
they are having difficulties because of sleeping problems. We want to be aware whether this
pandemic is having effect on us and our sleeping hours.

By being aware of the consequences of the pandemic on us. We can be very careful about our
health and take care of ourselves. In equivalent to that, we can improve our sleeping schedules and
won’t suffer from sleeping disorders.

Statement of the Problem

The main objective of this study is to provide knowledge regarding sleeping disorders of
teenagers.

Specifically, it answered the following questions:

1. How do teenagers that suffer from sleeping disorder cope up with the situation?
2. How did the pandemic affect the teenagers?
3. What happens when you suffer sleeping disorder and doesn’t get enough sleep?

Null Hypothesis

Ho: There is no significant difference between a teenager who have a seeping disorder and
the one who doesn’t.

Significance of the Study

The result of this study can be beneficial for the following:

Students

Being informed about sleeping disorders will be an advantage. Knowing the consequences of
having the said disorder will make you take more care of yourself and be very observant of your
sleeping schedule. As a student, we get easily distracted and we tend to forget about our schedules.
This research will be very much needed information and will be a wake-up call to students to be
mindful and prioritize your sleeping hours for your health.

Teachers

As a teacher, you handle different students of various ages, mostly teenagers. Being a teacher
and an individual who knows things about sleeping disorders toward teenagers, it'll be easier for you
to handle a student who does suffer from the said illness.

Parents

Parents are supposedly our main and first mentors. What do you think will happen if the parent
doesn't understand a single thing about sleeping disorders? Generally speaking, there will be an
unpleasant misunderstanding between the parent and their child. So, parents benefit from this
research are that they will understand what they must do whenever their child is suffering. By
understanding the situation of their child, they'll have a better bonding which might result in the child's
better health.

Future researchers

As this research indicates the needed information a person needs to be able understand
sleeping disorder, it will not be a nuisance to them. They just need to rad and analyze the indicated
pieces of information, and if it’s possible they can add more details and widen the meaning of
sleeping disorders with the help of the knowledge they already have about it.
CHAPTER II
RESEARCH DESIGN AND PROCEDURES

Research Design

Our study utilized a Quantitative research design, especially the independent t-test. The
researchers have surveyed 15 female random teenagers and 5 random male teenagers to answer
the question related to a sleeping disorder of teenagers. The design is suitable as the study involved
20 respondents to reply to the survey form. The researchers used a t-test to compare two means of
two independent groups to decide their statistical prove that the related populations' mean is
significantly different.

Participants

The sampling technique that the researchers used is a purposive and stratified sampling. the
researchers choose teenagers randomly to gather data. Most of the 16-17-year-old participants are
suffering from sleeping problems. 16-year-olds participants 5 out of 11 participants are suffering from
sleeping problems. While the 17-year-olds participants 5 out of 5 participants are suffering from
sleeping problems.

Instruments

The researchers used web survey form questionnaires, which were conducted through a web
survey form and it was sent through the messenger app. There are 3 questions which are about
teenagers' sleeping disorders. To draw significant information and data that are required to reply to
particular research issues. The researchers used a web survey form as the instrument for gathering
the information. This survey will decide the sleeping disorder of teenagers.

Research Procedure

The researchers spent a day gathering the data answered by the 20 random teen participants.
they used a survey form app to gather data and send it through messenger. The participants
answered the surveys within a minute. when the researchers received the response of the
participants, they took a picture or screenshot of the participants' response and after that, they
gathered how many of the participants are suffering from sleep problems. Most of the 16-17-year-old
participants are suffering from sleeping problems most of the reasons are having insomnia and some
mental health problems. The researchers used purposive and stratified sampling to gathered data
because it’s they did this research on purpose and choose teenagers to gather the research. when
the researchers gathered all the information they now proceed to solve solving to identify if the
research is successful or not.
CHAPTER III
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

The sampling technique that will be used is Stratified random sampling; the researchers chose
20 teenagers who had free time for the survey. The respondents are from different high school
teenage students. The researchers want to know the Lifestyle differences between a teenager who
have a sleeping disorder and one who doesn’t so the researchers chose respondents according to
their age between fifteen (15) years old to nineteen (19) years old.

Data Analysis

The gathered data in this study were analyzed and interpreted using the correlation research
method which is the statical method used to determine the relationship between two continuous
variables exist. It measures the strength and direction of the linear association between two variables.

This chapter presents the data which were gathered from the study which is then interpreted
and analyzed through the utilization of statistics to answer the question in chapter 1.

The two (2) tables below correspond with the two (2) statements based on the questionnaire,
providing the result of their frequency and percentage. The tables below are the response on how
many hours do teenagers sleep at night and if they are experiencing sleeping difficulties.

CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The point of this chapter is to conclude what the researchers think and to suggest what the
researchers think that could help.

Conclusion

The researchers discovered why most of the teens nowadays are having sleeping difficulties.
We asked the teens and according to the outcome of their answers we could tell that most of the
teens are having problem in sleeping. By our observation the teens nowadays need to practice their
sleeping on time and avoid the things that keep them from staying awake. After the researchers
studied about the it, the researchers have now enough evidence to reject that there is no significant
difference between a teenager who have a sleeping disorder and the one who doesn’t.

Recomendation

We recommend and suggest you can easily sleep when the room is cool and dark, also avoid
drinking and eating heavily 3 hours before going to bed. One of the reasons why the teens are having
difficulties in sleeping is because of their devices and social medias, so the teens must work on how
to limit their time on using mobiles especially during night time. We also recommend that if you are an
overthinker try to stop overthinking the things that keeps you awake because it will not help you and It
could even make you sick. And at last, we recommend don't sleep in the morning or afternoon even
though you didn't get enough sleep at night.
