SUB:- Estimate for infrastructure development for biomass pellets handling and storage

NTPC is planning to procure Biomass pellets for all 23 stations as per the revised guidelines
issued by MOP on 08.10.2021 (Attached as annexure-1). Estimated quantity to be procured is
as given in annexure-2.
To handle such a large qty of biomass pellet on daily basis, following need to be ensured:
1. Availability of adequate number of truck tipplers to ensure minimum possible time in
unloading of biomass pellets
2. Availability of shed for storage of pellets to avoid supply disruptions during Monsoon
and when stations are under RSD.
3. Availability of infrastructure for feeding of pellets from storage shed to hopper,
conveyor or stock yards.
4. Availability of any other equipment, such as additional lab equipment
As regards to storage shed, it may please be noted that storage shed shall be required only for
Non-torrefied pellets as they are hydrophilic in nature. Further, the required storage capacity
will depend on other factors, including number of units at the station, expected RSD etc.
It is pertinent to mention that the capital expenditure towards installation of biomass
handling equipment and facilities shall be capitalized. It is proposed to put up a combined
proposal for all NTPC stations for sanction of capital budget. Therefore, all stations are
requested to send approved comprehensive proposal, including financial estimate for
infrastructure development to CC-FM by 15.02.2022 for further processing at our end.
Matter may be treated as most urgent.
