Now,let me present to you our objectives that will

be expected of you at the end of the lesson. Please At the end of the lesson, students are able to:
read the objectives Anna.
 Define the drafting hand tools and equipment
 Demonstrate the use of hand tools
 Appreciate the importance of tools and equipment
Thank you Anna.

Unlocking of Terms
Let us now unlock some terms the first is drafting
hand tools. Please read Nicole the drafting
handtools. Drafting hand tools – these tools are typically used to
perform accurate and precise dimensions.

Thank you Nicole! These tools are handheld

instruments that aids in accomplishing a tasks.

The next term is drafting equipment. Please read

the drafting equipment Angelou.

Drafting equipment are used for drawing and designing

Thank you Angelou! Drafting equipment are bigger purposes.
and need a wider space to do drafting activities.

Presenting examples/instances of the new

lesson

Let me ask you a few questions. Are you familiar

with the work of architects and engineers? Why do
they make plans before making an actual building?
How do they present their work to the owner of the
building? Imagine a world without computers, how
are they going to plan out a layout with the absence
of drafting tools and equipment?
So class here are the different handtools and
equipment and their uses in technical drafting.

Explore:

Discussion

The first tool is pencil. What is a pencil? Yes Jepril? (Student will answer)

Very good Jepril! It is one of the draftsman’s most

important tools. It is categorized by different grades
of hardness and softness.

The next one is T-square? What is a T-square? Yes

Leonelyn?

(student will answer)

Very good Leonelyn! It is used for drawing

horizontal lines and serves as a guide for triangles
when drawing other kinds of lines.

Thank you Leonelyn! Next are triangles. What are

the uses of triangles? Yes Jane?

Very good Jane. Triangles are used for drawing

vertical and oblique lines. Usually comes in 45° and
the 30° x 60°.

(student will answer)

Class what have you observed on the picture here?

Yes Nath?
Very good Nath! The presentation shows the
example of oblique drawings which have different
degree angles that will use triangles to draw. From
top left to bottom, it has 30 degrees, the other one
has 60 degrees and the last one has 45-degree
angle.

(student will answer)

For the next pictures, what have you observed

class?Yes Marifer?

Very good Marifer! It shows how we use the triangle

properly and it has 30 degree angle. The drawing
here is an example of isometric drawing. It also
shows the step by step on how to draw isometric.

The next one is ruler, what is the use of a ruler? Yes

Nicho?

Very good Nicho! Ruler is used to draw a straight

line. It is also used to measure an object.

What have you observed on the picture regarding

the measurements? Yes, Marielle?

Very good, it shows that the measurement of 1 cm is

(student will anwer)
equal to 10 mm.

During Medieval, string was the first straight lines

for construction and other purposes. They put dye
and stretch tight over a wooden beam to mark
straight lines.

For the next one, please read the meaning of

triangular scale Alexis.

(student will answer)

Thank You Alexis!
Using the triangular scale, we can use ratio and
proportion to draw an object in full size. For
instance if you want to draw a full size of a building
in a drawing paper, you need to use the ratio and
proportion like 1:100 scale.

The first number always refers to the length of the

drawing on paper and the second number refers to
the length of the real-life object.
Example problem solving in scale drawing.
The scale drawing of the vehicle is 1:20. If the length
of the drawing of the vehicle on paper is 12 inches,
how long is the vehicle in real life?

Length of drawing 1
= (Student answer)
Real Length 20

12 1
=
Real Length 20

How are we going to solve this? What is the first

step? Yes Princess?

Very good Princess! So, what is 12x20? Yes Mae

Ann?

Very good Mae Ann! So the real length of the vehicle

is 240 inches. Triangular Scale – also known as “Architect’s Scale”. Its
purpose is to reproduce the dimensions of an object full
size on a drawing or enlarge them to some regular
Next is Lettering Pen, what is lettering pen? Yes proportion.
Nica?

Very good Nica! This tool is very useful in

calligraphy.

Here is an example of Haiku using calligraphy and

lettering pen. The poem is about wildfire.

We can also write the Baybayin in calligraphy style.

The next one is drawing compass. What is the use of

drawing compass? Yes Aaron?

Very good Aaron! It is used to draw arcs and cirlce.

Next is Dividers. Please read the dividers Lindsay

Do the cross product by multiplying numerator of one

fraction by the denominator.

12x20 is equal to 240

Thank you Lindsay! From the word “divide”. It is
used for dividing lines of equal parts.

It is used for drawing letters of different styles.

What have you observed in the picture here? Yes

Leah?

Very good Leah! The illustration shows a divider in

use.

Please read Protractor, Lindsay

Thank You Lindsay

Here are the examples of angles that couldn’t be

produce using triangles since triangles have 60, 45
and 30 degree angles only. So, we need to measure Dividers – are used for dividing lines into any number of
it using protractor. The first one has 135-degree equal parts, and transferring measurements and spacing
angle and the second has 240-degree angle. points or lines.

Christian, What is the use of an eraser?

Very good Christian! Erasers are used to remove

unwanted marks or smears

Erasing shield – made up of metal or celluloid with

irregular holes. It is useful to protect the rest of the
drawing when making an erasure.

(student will answer)

For Drawing Paper, Please read the meaning, Nica.

Thank you Nica.

Why oslo paper is commonly used in drafting? Yes,
Julee?
Very Good Julee! It is thicker than a bond paper.

Masking Tape – This is used for fastening the

drawing paper on the drawing table

Protractor – a semi circular scale divided into 180 equal

parts each of which is called a degree, (°), and is used for
measuring and laying out arcs of circles as well as angles
that cannot be measured with the 45° or the 30° x 60°
triangles.

Pencil Sharpener – Pencils should be sharpened

whenever they show sign of dullness.

Let’s now proceed to the drawing equipments

The first one is drawing table. What have you

observed on the picture here in front? What is the
difference between oridnary table and drawing
table? Yes Marilou?

Very good Marilou! Drafting table’s surface is

inclined while the ordinary table is flat. Some of the
drawing tables surface are adjustable in desired
inclination suitable for drafting job.

The second are computers. What are the uses of

computers in technical drafting? Yes Feldeth?

Very good Feldeth! In technical drafting, computers

are very essential equipment to create, modify,
analyse, or optimize drawings through Computer-
aided design (CAD), also known as computer-aided
drafting (CAD) or computer-aided design and
drafting (CADD).

Drawing paper – Oslo paper is commonly used but bond

paper is also recommended.

This type does not groove easily when pressure is applied

beacuse it is thicker and has rougher surface than the
usual regular bond paper

Explain:
For your activity, I want your participation and
collaboration especially in your group. I will group
you into 2 groups and do the activity.

Go to your groups silently and avoid pushing.

Are you with your groupmates now?

Ok let’s continue
Yes ma’am
I will give each group an envelop which contains
drafting tools. The envelops have different tools for
each group. For group 1, your tools are ruler and
triangles and for group 2, your tools are triangular
scale and ruler. Each group has different task to do.

Please do not play the drawing instruments with

your groupmates to avoid injuries. Handle the
drawing tools with care.

For the person with disabilities , what you’re going

to do is you have to fold the paper shape I required
you to make. I will give you glue to stick the folded
paper together according to its guide.

For group 1, you need to draw the isometrics shown

on the display monitor labelled figure 1 with
measurements.

For group 2, you need to use the 1:2 scaling to draw

the object in your bond paper.

Here is the criteria for the activity. Please read Ray

Here is the criteria for the object

Now, Are you ready? I will give you 10 minutes to

do the activity. Time starts now!
Time is up! Pass your activity sheet in front. I need
