TABS Practicum meeting minutes

Location: https://zoom.us/j/9181117575

Date: 01-12-2022

Time: 12:00-1:00pm ET

Attendees: Meg Hines, Hannah Heraty, Lauren Nelson

Agenda items
1. TABS Project:

collect, examine, and re-tool TABs work of Mary Frasier (with the GCE UGA Faculty/Torrance
Center) to be used in training for districts
begin to think about how it can be used in schools, classrooms, and programming
potentially creating a digital space where TABs can be shared
Part of the work is to teach teachers how to use it. Dr. Hines, used the tool to train 2 levels of
elementary teachers so that they could use the TABs to identify who is gifted at a school where
students were not being identified.
We want to be careful to protect the TABs, but it is not trademarked. So, the translation of TABS
can get water-downed and misinterpreted.
There is more to TABs than just training someone to use the tool, but training is a part of it.
Example: What does it look like when a child uses inquiry?
We want to elevate TABs to next level with digital materials and written materials.
For digital materials perhaps modules that work through TABs
More research into what platforms would be accessible for school districts
Is it going to UGA or GAGC routed?
Potentially having Doctoral students do consultations about TABs

2. Larger question of if we could make a digital version (perhaps accessible on iPad)

a. inquiry = asking deeper level questions; okay the student did do that and able to check
a box for it
Possibility for a survey, showing pre- and post-; essentially making a study
b. having someone detail why they want to use TABs and what they hope to get out of it.
c. Then they are given access to TABs and we look at after what their experience was
like.

Future: Put what was said into the meeting into a flowchart of everything we want this TABs project
to be
Future: looking to see what exemplars we currently have and evaluating whether we will make more
or do we want to break it down into specific groups as a demonstration of how the TABs can be
adapted
