INTERNSHIP AT TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING TURKEY (TMMT)

1. Introduction:
I completed my internship at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (TMMT)
between 1 April 2021 and 1 July 2021. I worked in the maintenance and inspection
department because it’s an important sector of my industrial engineering degree. I was part of a
specific team responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy machinery that
create doors and trunks for cars. In this internship report I will give a brief about the company’s
description along with the tasks I did during my internship.

2. Company Description:
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey or TMMT for short is one of Toyota's European
manufacturing facilities. TMMT is based in Arifiye/Sakarya, Turkey, and produces the Corolla
and Toyota C-HR vehicles. Around 150 countries receive the majority of the manufacturing.
TMMT, which is 90 percent owned by Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA and 10 percent controlled
by Mitsui & Co., Ltd., has a total investment of 2,08 billion euros and employs over 5,000
people. TMMT has applied the Toyota Production System (TPS) to its manufacturing processes
since its inception, focusing on high-quality production with the participation of all employees.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (TMMT) is now one of Toyota's ten largest overseas
manufacturing plants, with an annual production capacity of 280,000 vehicles.
3. Tasks, Activities, and Observation done during the Internship:
I did my internship at the maintenance and inspection department of the company and my
internship period covered some of the work done in the annual inspection/maintenance project,
where all machines are inspected and tested to ensure the highest standards of efficiency are
achieved.
I was trained for the first 3 weeks by a team of professionals on the basics, I practiced on some
of the spare parts of the machines and learned how to fix them, then I joined an inspection team
responsible for the annual maintenance project where my duties included doing a full checkup on
our machines, discovering problems and errors, troubleshooting to solve the issues we faced, and
discussing measures that can be used to avoid the same problem from happening again, and
finally I was tasked with submitting a full report detailing everything mentioned above to the
supervisors in order for it to be evaluated.

4. Conclusion:
I chose doing my internship in TMMT because of its high prestige and reputation.
Unsurprisingly, I have gained immeasurable information and experience on how factories
operate. I developed crucial technical and communicative skills that will help me in my future
career and personal growth. Personally, I think the internship in Toyota Motor Manufacturing
Turkey is what every senior student needs to do in order for them to experience what the
professional and practical environment of their field feels like firsthand.
