6 - DESIGN OF DIRECTIONAL WELLS

PLANNING INFORMATION REQUIRED TO DESIGN THE WELL


Having received the wellhead and target co-ordinates and total vertical depth of the target
from the 'geologist/reservoir engineer, the following further information is needed to
calculate the well:

1. Vertical depth to kick off point. KOP

2. Build-up rate

These points are variables, based on the previously mentioned design considerations.

Having decided upon a kick off point and buiid-up rate we can find the following
information:

1. Angle at end of build

2. Measured depth at end of build

3. Vertical depth at end of build

4. Displacement at end of build

5. Measured depth to target
